Space Invaders Extreme to powrót kultowej dwuwymiarowej strzelaniny. Gra została przygotowana z okazji 30 rocznicy premiery pierwszej części Space Invaders. Edycja Extreme w niezmienionej postaci zachowała założenia oryginalnej wersji, dodając jednocześnie wiele nowych elementów, które w znacznym stopniu wzbogacają rozgrywkę.

Tak samo jak w pierwszej wersji Space Invaders zasiądziesz za sterami futurystycznie zaprojektowanego myśliwca, stając do bezpośredniej walki z przedstawicielami obcych cywilizacji. Jednym z najważniejszych usprawnień edycji Extreme jest możliwość korzystania w dowolnym momencie np. ze zwiększonej siły ognia. Będziesz mógł również czasowo zmieniać rozmiary sterowanej jednostki, chwilowo unieruchamiać wrogów czy też stawać się niewrażliwym na ich ataki.

Oprócz standardowego trybu dla pojedynczego gracza Space Invaders Extreme zawiera również tryb sieciowy. Wspólnie z kolegami możesz więc likwidować wrogie statki bądź przystąpić do walki między sobą.

Grafika w Space Invaders Extreme została utrzymana w duchu kultowych pierwszych wersji, natomiast muzykę do gry tworzyli tacy wykonawcy jak Sugiurumn, Wall Five, Altz czy DJ Aki.
