Back of Case - Dreamcast (US)

Gee, why didn't they think of this before?

The N64's top-notch graphics and sound make it a natural for faithfully recreating the early arcade experience. So it makes eminent sense that Namco, the industry's 1,000-pound gorilla circa 1979-1984, should port a half-dozen of its favorite quarter-munchers to the home system.

Working with vintage Namco code, port master Mass Media (Starcraft 64) has managed to improve upon the originals. Although the screens, levels, music and sound effects have all been painstakingly re-created, play control with today's Controllers is far tighter than that offered by the battered joysticks of yesteryear.

Pac-Man

The cherry-chomping, ghost-busting hero is back. Pac-Man inspired the first spate of gamer's guides, but we'll bet you'll be able to disconnect the dots on your own.

Ms. Pac-Man

Back in the days when Culture Club led the hit parade, Namco made an overt pitch for grrrl gamers by giving Mr. P-M a bow and slightly different mazes.

Galaga

Still engrossing after all these years? You bet, especially when the alien bugs break off from the main fleet to circle above you. Hey, no one can top early '80s AI!

Galaxian

The oldest game here, Galaxian hit the arcades in 1979, just as "My Sharona" was climbing the charts. We'd say this colorful space shooter has aged better than The Knack's would-be teen anthem.

Pole Position

Back when computer monitors displayed one color ? yucky yellow or nauseous green ? the idea of a 16-color racer was cooler than a Dukes of Hazzard lunch box.

Namco Museum is full of authentic touches, like shifting both up and down with the R Button and that famous "Prepare to Qualify" intro. Voice sampling? In 1982? Excellent, dude!

Dig Dug

An underground version of Pac-Man, Dig Dug casts you in the role of a human mole who must dig tunnels, munch fruits and squash burrowing dragons.

The goggled hero can also deep-six pursuers by shooting them with his air hose, then literally blowing them up.

Your Nintendo Power Source staff was so wowed by Namco Museum that it blew an afternoon dropping boulders on Dig Dug's bad lizards and dining on dots with Mr. and Ms. Pac-Man. Here's betting you will, too.
