Jet Force Gemini’: A Force To Be Reckoned With Battle To Save The Universe In Rare Ltd.’s Multi-Faceted Adventure For Nintendo 64

LOS ANGELES, May 12, 1999 – A new breed of heroes is getting ready to hit the Nintendo 64… a boy, a girl and their dog. Prepare for the Jet Force Gemini team, three powerful characters with the responsibility to defend the Earth from the threat of an evil warlord and his army of alien insects. Developed and published by the world-famous game designers at U.K.-based Rare Ltd. and distributed by Nintendo of America Inc., Jet Force Gemini will be available on August 30 for a suggested retail price of $59.95.

Spanning a variety of game genres including action, adventure and puzzle-solving, Jet Force Gemini challenges players to alternately use all three characters in the game to maximize results. In addition to the game’s single-player mode, cooperative game play allows two players to take on the aliens together for a true team experience. Up to four players can participate for intense action in the game’s awesome multi-player mode on a number of specialized levels.

"Jet Force Gemini is truly a unique game play experience because the player must effectively control an entire team of heroes instead of just a single character in order to meet the objective," says Peter Main, Nintendo’s executive vice president, sales and marketing. "That aspect coupled with genuine fast-paced action, amazing 3-D graphics and epic adventure make Jet Force Gemini a must-have game."

Switching between the twins, Juno and Vela, and their trusty dog, Lupus, is a critical aspect of the game’s overall design. Each team member must make their way to the wicked Mizar’s home planet, where they plan to regroup and combine their respective strengths for a final showdown. Along the way, be prepared for wave after wave of alien enemies. All of the characters in the game will be able to upgrade their characters giving them new abilities and powers. Transform Lupus from a typical space mutt to an alien-wrecking machine by equipping a set of tank treads, or power-up Juno’s battle armor allowing him to take on vehicle form and cruise through the innards of an alien maze.

Jet Force Gemini features beautifully rendered 3-D graphics and massive environments created in a distinct style to provide a completely original backdrop for the game. Landscapes on the various planets are filled with myriad colors that give the player a feeling of actually being on the surface of one of these eerie worlds. An innovative viewing mode allows players to focus on potential targets while remaining in the third-person perspective. This option keeps the action moving at a frenzied pace.

Jet Force Gemini offers players a number of new modes while expanding the multi-player experience on the N64. Team play and cooperative action allows players to compete against each other and computer-controlled enemies. There is also a "Capture-the-Flag" mode and a racing option to choose from.

Developed and published by Rare (GoldenEye 007, Banjo-Tooie), Jet Force Gemini is an outer-spacey shooter starring three bold heroes.

The story is set in an unknown region of our galaxy, where a team of adventurers called Jet Force Gemini is bravely struggling against the looming threat of a warlord named Mizar. Juno, Vela, and their loyal pooch Lupus ignore the apathetic galactic authorities and set out to drive a stake through the heart of Mizar's operation.

There's nothing subtle about Jet Force Gemini's visual package, which propels players into a futuristic world full of color and volatile special effects. Character animations are naturally fluid, while smartly directed cinema scenes provide entertaining breaks in the action.

Graphically, Rare is most proud of JFG's real-time lighting effects. Weapon blasts shed light on surrounding structures as they tear toward an enemy, and if the alien dodges the blast it will continue to affect the environment as far as the eye can see. Each weapon has a unique lighting effect, which can turn the screen into a kaleidoscope of colors during heated gun fights.

On their quest to overthrow the maniacal Mizar, Jet Force Geminians will have to tear way through a staggering 120 stages of action. The characters travel individual paths to reach Mizar's home planet, where they regroup for a final confrontation. Each character is equipped with a unique talent that must be mastered along the journey.

Vela has the ability to swim long distances underwater, Juno is able to walk over fiery surfaces, and Lupus the dog can jump much farther than the other characters. Team members earn the ability to mech up with robotic power-ups that make them even more versatile.

Typical of Rare games, JFG comes stocked with extras, including four-player racing and deathmatch games. The multiplayer games are unlocked by completing components of the main adventure mode.
