Новое издание культового шутера, по праву вошедшего в золотой фонд интерактивных развлечений. Бывший полицейский Макс Пейн в одночасье потерял все. Его семья погибла от рук наркоманов, затем его обвинили в убийстве его друга и начальника, вдобавок ко всему на него обозлилась мафия, которой кто-то сообщил, что Макс был внедрен в одну из банд и собирал информацию для полиции...

Все против него, и Пейну остается только одно – продолжать мстить всем, кто приложил руку к его несчастьям. Ему уже нечего терять, он агрессивен, резок и не оставляет за спиной врагов.

АНТИГЕРОЙ В АНТИМИРЕ

Как выглядит новый антигерой? Внешне он ничем не примечателен - носит кожаную куртку поверх футболки, темные брюки и кожаные туфли - так одеваются тысячи американских парней. Один из первых самых реалистично выглядящих и детализированных персонажей трехмерных шутеров практически не отличим от сотен своих живых прототипов в цветной нью-йоркской толпе. Макс прекрасно анимирован и "умеет" выполнять массу различных движений. При разработке его облика была использована технология "скелетной анимации", предполагающая создание "скелета" модели, который затем анимируется и обтягивается текстурами. При этом во время игры текстуры персонажей меняются вместе с изменением положения каркаса, создавая складки на одежде и другие похожие эффекты, оживляющие картинку. Не меньше внимания разработчики потратили на освещение, красочные спецэффекты, тени и отражения. Многие обозреватели назвали среду этой игры самым стильным и мрачным миром, который когда-либо появлялся на экране компьютера. Тем не менее, это настоящий Нью-Йорк без прикрас, старательно отснятый дизайнерами из Remedy Entertainment во время недельной поездки в США. Из 5 тысяч снимков и 10 часов видеопленки получился мрачный и гнетущий мир нью-йоркского дна.

3D ШУТЕР ПО-НОВОМУ

Max Payne вдохнул новую жизнь в само понятие "трехмерный шутер". Герой может прыгнуть в непредсказуемом для противника направлении и высадить во врага одновременно две обоймы из прославленных скорострельных "Ингрэмов". Одновременно Макс может и слегка "сжульничать" и в режиме замедленного времени увернуться от пары пуль, игрок же при этом будет наблюдать, как его очереди косят врагов. Одна из основных особенностей Max Payne, вызвавшая множество восторженных откликов журналистов - кинематографичность. Вставки с замедленной съемкой позволили привнести еще больше драматизма в и без того более чем напряженные сцены. Что касается игрового мира, то здесь наконец-то можно делать все, что заблагорассудится. Хотите обрушить на голову противнику колонну? Нет проблем. Желаете взорвать балкон, который раздражает ваше эстетическое чувство? Пожалуйста - только достаньте гранатомет. Стоит помнить и о том, что искусственный интеллект, контролирующий поведение врагов, автоматически подстраивается под индивидуальный стиль игры, так, чтобы постоянно обеспечивать максимальную напряженность действа. Для опытного игрока Max Payne будет настоящим адом, где для выживания потребуется задействовать все рефлексы и навыки, тогда как игрок, впервые севший за компьютер, встретит более слабых противников, но и даже они будут достаят ему немало хлопот.

СЮЖЕТ

Max Payne создавался для зрелой аудитории, которая любит лихо закрученный, интересный и продуманный сюжет, поэтому ему уделялось особое внимание при разработке. Сценарий дает ответы на все вопросы: "Что?" "Где?" "Когда?" "Почему?" Действие разворачивается на улицах современного Нью-Йорка, в который через неизвестные каналы поступает новый очень опасный наркотик. Макса в числе других секретных агентов полиции внедряют в местную мафиозную группировку для сбора данных о поставщиках наркотиков. Он как нельзя лучше подходит для выполнения задания - знает город как свои пять пальцев, всегда уйдет от преследования и обезвредит противника, он прекрасно владеет оружием и очень спортивен. Эти качества не раз пригодятся Максу, особенно после сфабрикованного дела об убийстве шефа. Оказавшись вне закона, он будет пробиваться сквозь темные грязные улицы, которые, кажется, не имеют ничего общего с сияющим городом зеркальных небоскребов. Несмотря на то, что игра является шутером, каждый эпизод ее наполнен смыслом: игрок точно знает, за что и какому мерзавцу стоит прострелить голову.

Создатели предусмотрели желание многих пофантазировать и создать собственные сцены, поэтому в игру был включен полнофункциональный редактор, благодаря которому можно менять всё - дизайн уровня, анимации моделей и любые спецэффекты.
