Acclaim Sports Unleashes WWF War Zone(tm) for PlayStation

WWF War Zone's Record-Breaking Opening Kicks Off Acclaim Sports'

Fall Line-Up

Glen Cove, N.Y., July 29, 1998 -- Acclaim Sports, a division of Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKLM), a leading worldwide interactive entertainment company, today announced stronger than anticipated sales of the PlayStation version of WWF War Zone. Acclaim Sports' highly anticipated new wrestling game shipped last Friday, July 24 and retailers are already lining up for more.

"WWF War Zone is the largest PlayStation launch in the history of Acclaim. Despite our aggressive forecast, our shipments still did not meet the incredible demand for the PlayStation product. We have already received significant reorders" said Paul Eibeler, vice president and general manager of Acclaim North America. "We are eagerly anticipating the release of WWF War Zone for Nintendo 64 which is expected to ship the second week of August."

"We had high expectations for the product but the game basically sold out over the first weekend," said Doreen MacKenzie, merchandising manager/buyer for Babbages Etc. "We have already re-ordered the product."

"We knew WWF War Zone would be a big title but this is really unprecedented. It is currently our number one title outselling all other games by a huge margin," said Jim MacKenzie divisional merchandise manager of KB Toys. "Between the quality of the product and the popularity of wrestling, we expect WWF War Zone to have strong sales through to the end of the year."

"WWF War Zone is just the beginning of our outstanding 1998 sports line-up," said Eibeler, "Next up from the sports team is NFL Quarterback Club 99 shipping in September, and NBA Jam 99 and NHL Breakaway 99 coming in November. We moved NFL QBC 99 into September to provide more time to tune the AI (artificial intelligence) and to further strengthen our product line up for the first fiscal quarter. It will be worth the wait."

Developed by Acclaim Entertainment's Iguana West Studios, creators of NHL Breakaway '98, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter (PC version), as well as many of Acclaim's previous best-selling WWF video games, WWF War Zone captures all of the theatrics and attitude that is the WWF. Through digitizing and texture mapping the faces of over a dozen WWF wrestlers on 3D polygonal figures, characters look identical to their real-life counterparts. Gamers can compete with one of the WWF superstars or with their own custom-designed wrestler and can bodyslam their opponents and pile drive their friends with over 300 signature and finishing moves unique to each wrestler. A variety of gimmick matches often arise when other wrestlers randomly charge down to ringside to interrupt matches and start informal battles.

Additional features of Acclaim Sports' WWF War Zone wrestling video game include: * Complete 3D environment with polygonal wrestlers * In and out of the ring action, props and weapons * Motion capture and scanning of real WWF wrestlers * Multiplayer options and Training mode * WWF challenge matches - propelled by audio and video clips * Photorealistic Hi-Rez(tm) graphics and "create-a-wrestler" option

WWF War Zone is backed by major marketing support, including national TV and print advertising in WWF magazines, and in-arena promotions. A strategy guide and WWF War Zone for Game Boy is also available. Acclaim Sports is already developing the follow-up to WWF War Zone which will ship in 1999.

DUCK!!! There's a 300 pound wrestler about to pound your head into the living room carpet! In Acclaim's power-packed World Wrestling Federation: War Zone, there's enough flying flesh to make a vegetarian turn green. Eighteen of the league's biggest brawlers show up for the battle, and you're in control! Challenge the Undertaker to a cage match, or smack Steve Austin with a steel chair. Better yet, choose from hundreds of options to create your own custom wrestler. Lace up your boots and tighten those trunks. Slap on the grease, and prepare for War.

Acclaim's staff had the guts to work closely with the tough guys of the World Wrestling Federation, which has resulted in a very realistic Game Pak. Wrestling auteur Vince McMahon and Jim Ross provide the play-by-play, so expect some sarcastic insults if your skills aren't sharpened. The wrestlers themselves stepped into the sound studio to provide grunts, taunts, and groans of agony. It wasn't hard to get the wrestlers to groan, because Acclaim motion-captured more than 300 of the meanest moves in the league. Before the big guys could head home, Acclaim made sure that you would be able to recognize the wrestlers by scanning a photo of each man's face. Now that's realism.

You won't have time to drool over the authentic character graphics, because you'll be more concerned with avoiding Ken Shamrock's flying elbow smash. War Zone gives players many different ways to recreate World Wrestling Federation drama, from tournament action to cage matches. If you see it on "Raw", then you'll see it in this game. Four player capabilities allow you and your friends to take on tag team matches, and if you have the endurance then you can enter the Royal Rumble. Is there a wrestler out there you really dislike? Challenge him to a Weapons match and then smash him with a folding chair, or crash a television over his head. OUCH!!

One of our favorite features of this game is the Create mode, where you can give birth to your very own World Wrestling Federation Superstar. It is obvious that the developers spent a lot of time on this feature, because the possibilities are virtually endless. Every element of the wrestler is adjustable, right down to the amount of hair on the wrestler's back. SICK!!

From skinny purple aliens to mammoth tattooed bullies, anything is possible. You can name the wrestler whatever you like, and customize the wrestler's attributes as well. All of this information is saved onto the Controller Pak, so you can take your wrestler to wage war at a friend's house.

Whether you're piledriving Goldust or pinning Shawn Michaels, World Wrestling Federation: War Zone delivers action-packed wrestling mayhem that will have you leaping off your couch.
