Eighteen Exclusive Cards Found Only In The Game BoyTM Version

REDMOND, Wash., April 10, 2000 - Kids will never have to worry about misplacing their treasured Pokémon trading cards or having no one to trade with them. Nintendo of America Inc. converts the smash hit trading card game from Nintendo licensee, Wizards of the Coast®, into an exciting new electronic format: Pokémon Trading Card Game for Game Boy and Game Boy Color.

This latest video game in the Pokémon franchise contains cards based on the Base Set booster packs, and the Jungle and Fossil expansions. The game offers players a way to learn or practice the card game, generate new virtual cards and trade with their friends. Pokémon Trading Card Game will be available on April 10 for a suggested retail price of $29.95. As a special bonus, each game includes one exclusive, limited-edition Wizards of the Coast official trading card.

Developed by Hudson/CREATURES, the game requires players to follow a mysterious story line on their way to becoming a Pokémon trading card Master Trainer. The ultimate goal is for players to perfect their dueling skills and challenge the Grand Masters to inherit the Legendary Pokémon Cards. Using Game Boy's Game Link® cable, players will be able to compete against an opponent for intense two-player strategy action. Game Boy Color owners will also be able to generate new virtual cards using the game's innovative Card Pop! feature. Two players will be able to use the system's infrared communication port to receive a new card. To collect many different cards, players will be required to Card Pop! with their friends.

"Pokémon Trading Card Game successfully combines the popularity of the Wizards of the Coast card game and Nintendo's Game Boy format into one interactive product," says Peter Main, Nintendo's executive vice president, sales and marketing. "Now all the challenges of collecting, trading and dueling Pokémon cards are available in an easy-to-learn, electronic format."

Pokémon Trading Card Game will appeal to both serious Pokémon card aficionados and newcomers to the phenomenon. The game provides a tutorial on how to play, build and manage decks and battle with other card collectors. As a special bonus, a total of 18 new cards were created exclusively for Pokémon Trading Card Game. Players will also be able to print out cards using the Game Boy Printer.

The Pokémon phenomenon in America began in September 1998 with the release of the original Blue and Red Nintendo Game Boy video games and debut of the television series. Pokémon has entertained millions of fans all over the world with a best-selling toy line, a hugely popular card game, a Warner Bros. motion picture and a multitude of licensed products. In the U.S. to date, Nintendo has sold more than 15 million Pokémon related video games claiming five of the top 10 best-selling interactive entertainment titles for 1999 according to independent sales data. In 2000, Nintendo projects the Pokémon franchise total retail revenues to exceed $2.8 billion in the U.S. alone.

Nintendo Co., Ltd., of Kyoto, Japan, is the acknowledged worldwide leader in the creation of interactive entertainment. Nintendo manufactures and markets hardware and software for its popular home video game systems, including the Nintendo 64 and Game Boy - the world's best selling video game system. As a wholly owned subsidiary, Nintendo of America Inc., based in Redmond, Washington, serves as headquarters for Nintendo's operations in North America.

This unique game puts all the excitement and strategy of the wildly popular Wizards of the Coast card game in a fun, portable Pak.

Like Pokémon Silver, Gold, Yellow, Red and Blue, the Pokémon Trading Card Game takes place in a wondrous world filled with adventures. However, the main goals here are to hone your card battling skills and collect and win electronic trading cards. You play against increasingly tougher computer rivals or against a friend via the Game Link cable.

Pokémon Trading Card Game offers many ways to collect cards. During your journey, you'll encounter trainers who are willing to trade a card - often a rare one - for one of your cards. You can trade cards via Game Link cable with a pal with a Game Boy system and a Pokémon Trading Card Game Pak. You can Card Pop! with a pal via your GB's infrared port. But the key to win cards is by defeating computer-controlled Trainers.

Some of the cards you find aren't in any Wizards of the Coast card pack. They're only available in electronic form.

Newbies and pros alike can learn a lot from Pokémon Trading Card Game. For players new to card battling, the game's Dr. Mason starts you off with a step-by-step tutorial and a starter deck. Card veterans can assemble their own decks. All players can benefit from reading the info-packed books in Dr. Mason's Laboratory and every building throughout the land.
