REDMOND, Wash. March 6, 2000 - Pokémon trainers, prepare for battle! From the small Game Boy screen to the big TV screen, all 151 Pokémon are ready to compete in full 3-D splendor as Poké-fans put their creatures to the test in Pokémon Stadium. The second Pokémon game for N64, Pokémon Stadium allows up to four players to battle it out in a free-for-all Pokémon tournament complete with special attacks and fully animated movements. The game is available for a suggested retail price of $69.95.

This ground-breaking game allows players for the first time to transfer their captured and trained Pokémon from the best-selling Blue, Red and Yellow Game Boy games directly to the N64. This capability is possible through the use of Nintendo's innovative new N64 Transfer PakTM. The Transfer Pak plugs into the bottom of the N64 controller and is packaged with all retail versions of the game. If players do not own a Game Boy version of Pokémon, a special "Rental Pokémon" feature allows them to battle with creatures already inserted in the game. The Transfer Pak also allows users to play their Red, Blue and Yellow games on the television screen.

"Pokémon Stadium is the game that Poké-fans have been craving for ever since the introduction of the franchise," says Peter Main, Nintendo's executive vice president, sales and marketing. "The ability to transfer Pokémon that have been trained on Game Boy to full 3-D battle arenas is something every experienced player has dreamed of doing." Pokémon Stadium features numerous game play modes providing endless replay value. Start by learning the basics of Pokémon battles in the game's training mode. This is a great way for newcomers to the Pokémon world to become familiar with training and battling different Pokémon. The highlight of Pokémon Stadium is the game's "Free Battle," where up to four players can compete against each other for the title of Pokémon Master Trainer. In an "Event Battle," players can set time limits and determine how much time is allotted between moves. The "Research" mode lets gamers organize their Pokémon and swap data with the Game Boy games. Players can also choose to engage in a number of exciting mini-games and a single-player mode that add to the Pokémon experience.

Nintendo also will release a Limited Edition Pokémon Stadium Bundle set. This official battle set of Pokémon Master Trainers will feature an N64 control deck, two controllers (one gray and one Atomic purple), the N64 Transfer Pak, a Pokémon Stadium game pak, a Battle Guide, Pokémon Poster and a Wizards of the Coast Pokémon trading card. This exclusive hardware bundle will be available March 27 for a suggested retail price of $149.95. Nintendo will also continue its partnership with Blockbuster Video by making more than 4800 Pokémon Stations compatible with Pokémon Stadium. The promotion runs from March 6 through May 31, and allows Pokémon Trainers to print out stickers of their favorite Pokémon at local stores.

Nintendo Power Magazine will release an official Pokémon Stadium Player's Guide March 16 for a suggested retail price of $14.95.

Pokémon Stadium gives trainers a ring-side seat for heated 3D arena battles. Tons of features, including support for playing your Game Boy Pokémon Red, Blue or Yellow game through your N64, make Stadium a must-have for Pokémon fans!

The American version of Pokémon Stadium is actually based on the second Japanese edition of Pokémon Stadium. Pokémon Trainers are able to conduct turn-based battles similar to the Game Boy versions of Pokémon, but outrageous animation sequences and flashy special attack effects will make your Pokémon come to life like never before.

One of the most exciting aspects of Pokémon Stadium is that you're able to battle using your most loyal Pokémon from the Red, Blue and Yellow versions of Pokémon (sold separately). Thanks to a Transfer Pak that comes with the Pokémon Stadium Game Pak and plugs into the bottom of your Controller, data can be transferred straight from a Game Boy cartridge to your N64. The Technical Machines, attacks and levels of your trained Pokémon are available on Pokémon Stadium, so you won't have to leave any of your favorites behind. You'll want your specially trained Pokémon to battle Stadium's toughest rivals.

One hundred fifty Pokémon can be used, or "rented," in Pokémon Stadium, even if you decide not to transfer data from your Game Boy Pokémon games. Pokémon Stadium will allow up to four players to compete in a grueling Pokémon tournament, designed to reveal which of your friends is the best Pokémon Trainer.

Pokémon Stadium is available now as a specially priced Player's Choice game with a MSRP of $39.95. The game has been rated "E" (Everyone) by the independent Entertainment Software Rating Board with the content descriptor of Mild Animated Violence. With help from the N64 Transfer Pak™ (a device that plugged into the N64 controller), Pokémon Stadium marked the first time a player could connect between handheld and console versions of Pokémon games. Pokémon Stadium is the first game to show Pokémon in 3-D, giving N64 fans a chance to see their teams in a different way. With the N64 Transfer Pak, players can import and bring to battle Pokémon from their Pokémon Red Version, Pokémon Blue Version, and Pokémon Yellow Version games. Structured tournaments give Trainers of all skill levels an opportunity to test their strategies. And Pokémon Stadium is the ultimate location for multiplayer action on the N64.

In addition to providing a full 3-D battle experience, Trainers can also play their Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue, and Pokémon Yellow games directly on the TV via the N64. Let everyone watch as you battle through Kanto on the way to the Elite Four!

With the popularity of Pokémon skyrocketing out of control, it's no surprise that Pokémon are preparing to pour into the 3D world of Nintendo 64. Pokémon Snap will be the first N64 release based on Pokémon, and Pokémon Stadium will follow this winter. Pokémon Stadium gives Trainers an arena to engage in heated Pokémon battles, and offers them a ring-side seat for the action.
