Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance

Coil your whip and explore Dracula's Castle in this excellent installment in Konami's illustrious vampire-hunting series.

A prequel, Harmony of Dissonance takes place well before the events in the GBA debut title Castlevania: Circle of the Moon. You play as Juste, a blood relative of the Belmont family, searching for relics inside Dracula's Castle.

Like past heroes of the Castlevania series, Juste is armed with a whip and can use magic spells once the proper items have been found. There are also special Relics that grant new abilities. For example, the Monster Tome tracks vital information about enemies.

You can freely explore the crumbling passageways of the huge castle and gain experience by defeating nocturnal enemies. You can also collect money to purchase new equipment from shops found throughout the game.

Konami has jettisoned Circle of the Moon's Action and Attribute cards, resulting in a simplified, easy-to-manage magic system. However, there are still plenty of hidden items and upgrades to keep you searching every corner of the castle.

Graphically, Harmony of Dissonance boasts a richer palette and more dazzling effects than Circle of the Moon. The streamlined gameplay is sure to entice newcomers, while vampire-hunting vets are sure to relish the challenges of exploring the moldering castle.

This game has been rated "T" (Teen) by the independent Entertainment Software Rating Board. Progress is saved to the Game Pak in one of three save files.
