DESCRIPTION:

Godzilla – Destroy All Monsters Melee is a fighting game on a “giant” scale. Up to 4 players can take on the roles of giant movie monsters and wage battles against each other or computer opponents in cityscape environments. No major city is safe from destruction as players claw, kick, throw and blast each other in order to claim the title: King of the Monsters. The monsters fight in 3D cityscape battlefields amongst destructible buildings. These city environments provide a sense-of-scale never before seen in a fighting game. More importantly, they give players plenty of room to strategize their attacks and allow retreat to replenish health and energy. The destructible buildings provide cover but can also be used as weapons by toppling them onto opponents. They will also be just plain fun to destroy. The stars of the game are the legendary Godzilla along with 13 of the most famous monsters in film history. The monsters never die when they are defeated. They are only rendered unconscious.

New features for Xbox include:

FEATURES: - New monster: Mechagodzilla’3 (from the latest Godzilla® film release in Japan) joins the cast. - New arenas: Vortaak Home World, Boxing Ring, - New Computer AI: One gamer can now play a four-player melee or team game against the Xbox Artificial Intelligence. - Single-player Destruction Mode: Players can rip up a city-all by themselves. - Soundtrack support: Rip tunes to the Xbox hard drive and play your own tracks while you're fighting as your favorite giant monsters. - Xbox Advantage Controls: The extra buttons on the Xbox make it easier to grab monsters and buildings. “When originally released on GameCube late last year, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee was a good game with some big single-player flaws. Not wanting to merely port the game, but instead looking to improve upon it, Atari and Pipeworks Software went all out in bringing the 'Zilla to Xbox" - IGN.com

"Though Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee is coming to Xbox several months after release on GameCube, it's sporting enough improvements not to be considered merely a port. With a new level and monster plus downloadable content, improved graphics, and bots, this may be one Melee worth buying. Fans of rubber-suited monster movies certainly shouldn't miss out.” - IGN.com

" Overall, Godzilla: Destroy All Monster Melee is a very fun and challenging fighting game. While gamers can have fun with the single player action, the game really shines when you play it with your friends. Great graphics mixed with a good fighting engine provide for one great gaming experience. If you are a fan of Godzilla or fighting games and you own a GameCube, you should definitely pick this one up next time you are at your favorite retailer. 88/100" - Nlgaming.com

"Adding to the authentic atmosphere are the game's graphics and sound. Every scale of every monster is lovingly rendered according to the original movies. Never before have men in giant rubber suits looked so real, so menacing. Add to that the great sense of scope and perspective that makes every tiny detail in the city seem just the perfect size in relation to the monsters and the attention to detail in each of the monsters' special attacks (Godzilla 2000's back spines glow blue as he charges up a beam attack), and you have an absolutely gorgeous game. And just as the game looks a lot like the source material, it sounds a lot like it too. Every monster has its own roar and sound effects for beam weapons, and they even recaptured the original Godzilla theme song here. B" - Zengamers

" Godzilla has some really creative gameplay elements within. For example, if you like to toss your opponent into buildings, the stupid humans below think that monster is causing the damage and actually fire on it. Also, a UFO flies around and drops power-ups. My favorite is the Mothra Air Support. By grabbing this, Mothra flies around and zaps your opponent now and again, giving you a bit of needed help. Finally, there is the Rage power-up. While this one, on the surface, seems to just boost your attack power, you are able to hit A-X to perform a shockwave stomp that topples buildings and sends the other monster flying. The levels are totally interactive as I found myself throwing oil tankers and buildings at an unsuspecting monster, who found themselves on the receiving end of a ton of bricks, literally. There is also an energy bar as to avoid fights being nothing more than bouts of fire and beams. Another good move was the balance of health and damage. Fights don't last 30 seconds like in most games, but can run 10-15 full minutes. These guys are 40 foot behemoths, and it really feels like that as you simply stand up after being tossed through a towering skyscraper" - Netjak

" The graphics in Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee are overall very good. Seeing the laser from Godzilla’s mouth tear into a nearby skyscraper brings tears to the eyes from its beauty. Little details like this are truly a sight to behold. I often found myself doing a certain action just to see the results. “Whoa! Did you see that?!” was the first thing I said when I was blasted from the fully charged blast of my friend’s beam. The game is really that beautiful. 9/10" - Genregames.com

" All in all, Godzilla is one of the better games out in recent time and does a fine job of distinguishing itself from others like Mario and Star Fox. This is as good of a rental you can find, and if you’re a Godzilla fan, go out and buy two copies." - Genregames.com

Hey, what's a few skyscrapers among friends?

Buildings will crumble, cars will be crushed and entire cities will be turned to rubble as gigantic monsters from classic Japanese monster movies fight to the finish in Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee.

You can tromp through cities like Tokyo, Seattle, Los Angeles and London during the day or night. Each city is dotted with fully interactive landmarks, so you can demolish Seattle's Space Needle or go for a dip in San Francisco Bay. Human armies will also come at you with their usual puny weapons, including tanks, helicopters and high-tech laser beams.

The classic city-stomping lineup includes:

* Anguirus
* Destoroyah
* Gigan
* Godzilla '90s and Godzilla 2000 (Godzilla 2000 is a hidden character. This is a more recent version of Toho's Godzilla)
* Hedorah (Not playable but adds to gameplay - appears randomly and causes the player's energy bar to decrease)
* King Ghidorah
* Mechagodzilla
* Mecha King Ghidorah
* Megalon
* Mothra (Not playable but adds to gameplay - appears after the player acquires Mothra's power-up)
* Rodan

Many of these creatures must be unlocked in the Adventure Mode before they can be used.

During a fight, you can grapple, pick up buildings, use energy beams and toss your opponents using an easy-to-learn control scheme.

Each monster has special abilities just as in the movies, so you can drill underground as Megalon or fly for short distances as Gigan. There are also power-up items that appear throughout the game that will restore health, give your monster more power, or send him into a Monster Rage so he can perform devastating special moves.

The game was under the close guidance of Japan's Toho Studios, which created Godzilla and the rest of the rambunctious roster. All monster models and moves are Toho approved. All sounds in the game are taken directly from the Godzilla movies.

Game Modes

In the Adventure Mode, a single player will face an increasingly difficult series of challengers, unlocking many new cities and monsters along the way. There are three difficulty settings. Even the Easy setting will provide a challenge for most players.
In the equally challenging Survival Mode, you must face colossal creatures one-by-one. Between rounds you will only regain part of your health meter, so conserving your energy is an important strategy. If you tire of clashing claws with other monsters, you can take on the humans in Destruction Mode, where you are challenged to crush every building in the city.

Several other modes cater to gamers who want to fight their friends in king-sized multiplayer brawls. Versus, Melee, and Team Battle all provide a fun experience for up to four players. Throwing your buddy across the screen onto an explosive tanker is quite satisfying. The simple control scheme lets anyone get into the action.

Gargantuan Graphics

Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee accurately portrays the look and feel of classic monster movies from Japan's world-renowned Toho Studios. This game will remind you of a time when special effects meant a guy dressed in a rubber suit swatting at toy helicopters. Monsters will fly across five city blocks before crashing into a skyscraper, energy beams spark and sputter, and monsters will hop on one foot when their toes get stepped on.

In addition to animations that mimic the Godzilla movies, other details reflect the game's tongue-in-cheek approach. The zany plot of the Adventure Mode has the world's most powerful monsters under the control of an alien mind-control ray. A booming announcer will introduce each competitor, and humans fire at the monsters with missiles and freeze rays.

Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee is best enjoyed as a multiplayer game. The Adventure Mode is challenging, but necessary if you want to unlock all the game's features. Good graphics and a sense of humor drive the Godzilla theme home and make this a stellar party game. Saving your progress requires a Memory Card (not included) with two free blocks. This game supports Dolby Pro Logic II. For a sharper and clearer image, select the Progressive Scan option when playing on a TV set that supports that feature.
