The Mark of Kri

Moby ID: 7648

For every evil,

there is a greater good.

For every innocent,

there is a protector.

For every legend,

there is a hero.

Long ago, an evil spell was created that had the power to bridge our world with the one of darkness. Before the spell could be invoked it was stolen and hidden away, forgotten with time... until now.

Follow Rau, a heroic warrior, as he embarks on an adventure filled with conflict, discovery and magic. Accompanied by his loyal friend, a bird named Kuzo, Rau must battle many enemies across lands near and far to uncover the truth about his family's dark secrets.

Back of Case

Save an ancient, Maori-inspired world from darkness in this gorgeous cartoon-style adventure.

It may seem that the world and his wife are churning out cartoon style games at the moment, but as with most 'fads' one example eventually will come along that shows you can follow fashion and still be brilliant. The Mark of Kri is that game. Set in an ancient Maori-inspired world of swords and sorcerers, The Mark of Kri sees dark powers out to invoke six parts of a shadowy spell that will unleash an ancient evil throughout the land. Only Rau, a powerful warrior, stands against the darkness. With the aid of his faithful hawk Kuzo, you must guide Rau and use might, strategy and stealth to overcome the forces of darkness.

The Mark of Kri is a third-person adventure with stealth and beat 'em up action in equal quantities. Set in a visually stunning cartoon world that feels like a warped Disney-esque realm (designed by ex-Disney and ex-Don Bluth artists), you may think this is a kiddie game, but you couldn't be more wrong. Despite the cartoon style animation, MoK does not pull any punches when it comes to violence - limbs are lopped, faces smashed and enemies impaled all in vivid colour. To aid the bloodletting, MoK features a unique combat system where multiple opponents can be targeted at once, each highlighted with a different button icon above their heads (Circle, Square, etc). Press the corresponding button and Rau launches an attack at that person, so that full-on multi-opponent combos can be pulled off that make Bruce Lee look boring. In addition to Rau's melee attacks with fists, sword, spear and axe he can also take out guards with his bow - one shot, one kill if you're good enough.

But it's not all about running around like a Polynesian Conan smacking people with sharpened bits of metal. Rau needs to be sneaky in order to survive some of the perils ahead and besides, his stealth kills are some of the most gloriously gruesome parts of the game. Like a bare-chested Solid Snake, Rau can flatten himself against walls, tiptoe up behind guards and if undetected take them out swiftly and silently (did he really just stick his sword in the eye of that prone guard? Yep, he did). Key to Rau's progress is his spiritual guide, the bird Kuzo. You can send Kuzo to scout ahead, activate switches, pick up items, read ancient hieroglyphs and even distract guards, but ultimately it will be your warrior skills that will combat evil.

If Disney ever re-made Conan the Barbarian as an animated feature they'd come up with The Mark of Kri. With visceral mass combat, mythical setting, magical storyline and gorgeously gory animation all played out in a beautiful animated world, The Mark of Kri will stun everyone who plays it.

  • Instinctive targeting system allows you to combat multiple opponents with fluid attack and defence combos
  • Sumptuous cartoon style graphics and 'pencil drawn' cut-scenes
  • Intense combat action and tactical stealth play
  • Learn how to use multiple weapons with your trainer Baumusu
  • Gory death-dealing means this is definitely not for the weak-stomached
