25th Anniversary of Lunar Landing Marks Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space Arrival on CD-ROM

Irvine, California - Aug 3, 1994 - Interplay Productions announced today the arrival of Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space, one of their best-selling disk-based titles, for the CD-ROM format. Now available for IBM and 100% compatible computers, the release of Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space Enhanced CD-ROM coincides with the 25th anniversary of The Appolo 11 landing on the moon. Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space Enhanced CD-ROM features over 20 historic and proposed plans to reach the moon. The player will choose to assume one of two roles: that of Mission Director for the United States or the Soviet Union. The players' mission is to be the first to put their nation's flag on the moon. The players' resources include that of over 140 astronauts or cosmonauts from which the player will plan, manipulate and direct every possible mission: sub-orbital; orbital manned and unmanned; planetary and lunar fly-bys; lunar orbits; space-walks; LEM tests; lunar passes; and lunar landings.

"We're excited to release this title, especially at such a celebrated time in our nation's history," said Jerry Luttrell, marketing manager for Interplay Productions. "A lot of time and research have gone into the making of this CD-ROM version, to make it a top-notch, informative, interesting and fun game to play."

This CD-ROM version of Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space boasts over 60 minutes of full-motion video. One of the several highlighted features of this full-motion video is the actual live-action footage of both U.S. and Soviet history-making missions. Additionally, the player will be privy to actual never before seen footage from the Soviet archives. A digitized newsroom, with coverage by a live news-anchor, will keep the "director" fully informed of both U.S. and Soviet movements in the space arena.

Players will watch historic video footage from NASA which shows various space programs including the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs, while listening to a full musical score performed by a 52 piece orchestra. Players will witness blast-offs, space flights, walks in space, splash downs, lunar orbitals and the historical lunar landing that marked a monumental achievement and brought an entire nation together.

Players may choose to play against the computer or against a human opponent. In achieving this dual-player capacity, Interplay utilized their technological know-how to connect-up remote rivals via modem or using a unique E-mail feature. A "beginning player" mode reduces failure penalties against the player and increases the difficulty level for the computer opponent.

Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space Enhanced CD-ROM is available now for IBM computers and 100% compatibles 386SX or higher system, with a hard drive and mouse, requires 4MB of RAM (580K base = 2900K EMS), DOS 3.1 or higher, a VGA video card and MPC compliant CD-ROM drive. Sound devices supported are the Adlib, Adlib Gold, Sound Blaster series and 100% compatible sound cards as well as the internal PC speaker. Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space Enhanced CD-ROM is also available on floppy disk for both IBM computers and 100% compatibles.
