Acclaim's Bust-A-Move '99 Brings Bubble-Bursting Fun To The Nintendo 64 and PlayStation This April

Latest Edition Of Popular Puzzle Game Provides Hours of Addicting Gameplay

Glen Cove, NY (February 16, 1999) -- Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ:AKLM), a worldwide interactive entertainment company, today announced the upcoming April release of Bust-A-Move '99 for the N64 and PlayStation. A well-established brand in the popular puzzle game category, Bust-A-Move '99 is the latest addition to the premier puzzle series that features intense multiplayer action and all new levels and characters.

"For the first time ever, Bust-A-Move fans can experience four-player action on the N64. Players can also enjoy more of everything they like about the series - more gameplay, more levels, and the ability to create your own puzzles," said Christina Recchio, assistant product manager at Acclaim Entertainment. "Kids of all ages will enjoy hours of Bust-A-Move '99's unrivaled, puzzle excitement."

In Bust-A-Move '99, players must free eight characters trapped in Bubble World by a mysterious spell cast by Dunk, Bubble World's magical master. The only way to free Dunk's victims is by battling brain-busting boards of bubbles.

Bust-A-Move '99 features all new graphics, new bubbles, and obstructive blocks. The N64 version offers four-player head to-head competition and rumble pack support. Both the N64 and PlayStation games feature several different modes to test out players skills including: Challenge, CPU, Edit, Win Contest, Collection and Head-to-Head Modes.

Bust-A-Move '99's Edit Mode allows players to create their own puzzles and save them to a memory card, and the Challenge mode evaluates gamers' play. The Collection mode provides access to over 1,000 of the best Bust-A-Move puzzles ever created.

Bust-A-Move '99 will be supported by a national print campaign in all the gaming publications, as well as a major online and consumer promotion campaign.

Press Release

A group of bleary-eyed gamers gather in a dreary room stocked with metal folding chairs. They sluggishly find their seats like a troop of zombies, and unsuccessfully try to stop the incessant twitching of their thumbs. One pallid-faced gamer approaches a small stage and sheepishly climbs behind a makeshift podium. After an ear-piercing blast of feedback, the troubled soul speaks, "Hi. My name is Joe, and I'm addicted to Bust-A-Move." Joe breaks down in tears, the crowd cheers, and another troubled puzzle addict is on the road to recovery.

Since the original Bust-A-Move appeared on the Super Nintendo, the previously mentioned scenario has become an all too common sight in the video game scene. The first game didn't have amazing graphics or a stunning soundtrack, yet its addictive puzzles and competitive head-to-head action made it a big hit with puzzle fans of all ages. Since then, Bust-A-Move has appeared on the Game Boy , and Bust-A-Move 2 was released last May. Just as gamers were starting to recover from the emotional impact of a Bust-A-Move game for the N64, Acclaim released Bust-A-Move '99, which is now supplying fans with literally thousands of different puzzles. This is certainly sending shockwaves through the support groups.

Like the previous games in the series, the concept behind Bust-A-Move '99 is simple. A cluster of colored bubbles descends slowly but surely upon your pointer/shooter at the bottom of the screen. You are given bubbles, one at a time, which you shoot at the cluster after aiming with the Control Stick. When three identical bubbles touch, they break apart and fall off your screen. If you quickly clear the entire screen, you will get a bonus. In some instances you must bounce your bubbles off walls, which requires a great deal of practice to perfect.

Bust-A-Move '99 introduces eight new characters from Taito video games, who find themselves trapped in Bubble World. To send them home, you have to battle through board after board of bubbles, bursting everything along the way. While Bust-A-Move 2 was basically a straight port of the Super Nintendo version, Bust-A-Move '99 boasts improved graphics, new backgrounds, and the addition of special star, metal, and rainbow bubbles. Another new feature of Bust-A-Move '99 is a four player head-to-head mode. By bursting more than 3 bubbles at once, you'll send a bubble storm raining down on your opponent's screen. With four players causing simultaneous bubble downpours, things can get pretty hectic.

If you've been enduring the pains of Bust-A-Move withdrawal, it may be time to give up on your quitting program. You know you don't have the power to resist, so why try? If you've managed to avoid getting your first taste of Bust-A-Move, then there's never been a better time to dive right in.
