GameFan Magazine * Volume 5 * Issue 10

"A struggle to determine the planet's future..."

Explore a world of black destruction -- and unimaginable beauty. Wander through dripping sewers, abandoned towns, ancient forests. Bustling cities stand high above the slums they have created on a plate supported by pillars, forever shunning the poverty and ruination from view. Despite the yet-untouched breathtaking splendor on the outskirts of the planet or the candy-colored, plastic facade of the Las Vegas-style commerce center, this is a world without hope of tomorrow. The mega-conglomerate Shinra, Inc. has a stranglehold over the planet's natural resources through their Mako Reactors, which permanently leach the essential life-force from the land. A few rebel groups have been formed to fight these sinister forces. The most powerful of these groups, AVALANCHE, includes some of the strongest, cleverest and most passionate fighters the world has seen, all of whom have lost something of personal value to the evil corporation or perhaps have suffered even greater indignities. With the addition of their newest member, Cloud Strife, a former Shinra SOLDIER, AVALANCHE may just be primed to win back control of the world.

Playing primarily as Cloud, you have the starring role in an epic saga that spans 3 CDs of gameplay -- and will call on both your physical and mental powers. Prepare for terrorism, cross-dressing, a train graveyard, a city-sized amusement park, fortune-telling, animal racing, stealing, snowboarding, and the fight of Cloud's life, which will take you deep inside the planet. You will travel to the bitterest frozen tundra, an exotic island resort, an ancient forest, a village made of giant bones, numerous caves, and Cloud's hometown. Oh, and if you start to hear voices in your head, don't fret -- you're right on course. Suffering from partial amnesia as a result of a horrible event in his past, Cloud is also searching for his childhood hero, the legendary Sephiroth, who seems to have disappeared off the face of the planet.

"It has been said that everything in the universe is fundamentally composed of energy. What we think of as matter is really nothing more than a certain type of energy. And since energy cannot be created or destroyed but merely transferred, some speculate that living beings never truly die. Their life energy is simply returned to the universe in its simplest form."

--Joe Rybickii & Dido Perez, P.S.X. Magazine

This is where the story of Final Fantasy VII begins. It seems that an evil power company called Shinra, Inc. has found a way to mine this life energy, draining it from the earth, and using it to control the universe. Fortunately, a resistance organization know as AVALANCHE, has vowed to put an end to Shinra's destructive practices. The story focuses on Cloud, an ex-soldier of Shinra, who teams up with AVALANCHE, and along the way, encounters some very mysterious and powerful allies who help him fight against the deadly creatures Shinra has created to protect its empire. You, as the game player, will decide their fate.

Featuring seamless 3D gameplay and animation, Final Fantasy VII contains hundreds of pre-rendered, computer-generated backgrounds and features real-time battles, vast map screens, and a complex and engrossing storyline. Published on three CDs, Final Fantasy VII will be one of the largest and most richly detailed gaming experiences ever created.
