NOVATO, CA (September 17, 1999) - 10 years ago, Jordan Mechner ignited the passions of the gaming world with the release of the original Prince of Persia®. Since that time 2.5 million units have been sold and action adventure gamers have been waiting for the next installment in this classic series. Today, their patience has been rewarded and a legacy fulfilled, as Mindscape announced that Prince of Persia® 3D began shipping to retailers nationwide at an estimated street price of $49.99.

Released under Mindscape's Red Orb Entertainment label, this third person action adventure game includes all the features that made the original Prince of Persia so popular: fluid, realistic animation, devious and deadly traps, and an intuitive interface for running, jumping, climbing and combat. In true action/adventure style, Prince of Persia 3D is a test of brains as well as brawn; you'll need your wits to solve challenging puzzles as well as be handy with a sword. The story was co-authored by Mechner and immerses players in the exotic and mysterious locales and environments of 12th Century Persia.

As the Prince, your goal is to escape your imprisonment and reach the mountain stronghold of the evil Rugnor to avenge the death of the Sultan and rescue the Princess from a harrowing fate. Your journey will cover 17 challenging levels spanning 7 exotic 3D Persian environments. Along the way, you'll encounter over 30 distinct types of enemies that are both human and inhuman; you'll also learn to use three different types of 'melee' weapons, each with it's own strengths and weaknesses: a scimitar (sword), a staff and lethal double blades. A bow with various types of arrows will also be available to take care of enemies from long distance as well as help you traverse dangerous environments. Magic potions can be picked up throughout the game, providing the Prince with a variety of attributes including increased health, immunity, stealth and fighting skill.

The launch of Prince of Persia 3D will be supported by a multi-million dollar marketing campaign including TV and print advertising, radio promotion, retailer displays and promotions, in addition to online advertising and promotions. Third-party marketing programs are also being executed with AMD, Aureal, Intel, Microsoft, nVidia and 3dfx.

Prince of Persia 3D also utilizes cutting-edge technology that delivers stunning, high-polygon count graphics at a high frame rate.
