Electronic Arts Ships NBA LIVE 96 for the PlayStationEA SPORTS' New Basketball Title Hits the Hardwood as the Season Heats-Up for the NBA Playoffs & FinalsSAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 27, 1996--Electronic Arts' (NASDAQ: ERTS), a leading global interactive entertainment software company, EA SPORTS division today announced the shipment of NBA LIVE 96 for the PlayStation.
NBA LIVE 96 is the thirteenth PlayStation title shipped by Electronic Arts this year. This new title, the most realistic five-on-five NBA basketball game to hit the market, will be available in stores on March 29, 1996, at a suggested retail price of $59.95.
NBA LIVE 96 features more than 300 real NBA players as well as 29 NBA teams. To give consumers the most authentic basketball simulation, each player is accurately rated and performs based on his actual NBA statistics. A complete statistic tracking system keeps individual game and season stats for every team and player, which gives basketball aficionados the game depth they demand. Also featured are player photos and actual court logos of every team, including the colorful new court of the back-to-back World Champion Houston Rockets and newcomers Vancouver Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors. NBA LIVE 96 is so real that even Dennis Rodman's hair color changes throughout the season.
NBA LIVE 96 delivers unmatched gameplay allowing players to select a high-energy, fast action-oriented game or slow down the pace so they can play strategic ball utilizing a new on-the-fly playcalling feature that includes authentic NBA plays. Different modes allow players to choose exhibition, regular season or playoffs.
As stated in Game Player's Magazine, a leading interactive entertainment industry publication, "NBA LIVE 96 is the best 32-bit basketball simulation available. It delivers a gameplay experience that is unequaled and provides consumers with the realism and excitement of actual NBA action they're looking for. The depth of the game, including statistics tracking, updated player ratings and the total dedication to hoops are what sets NBA LIVE 96 apart from the pack. This game will keep you up late at night."
Don Transeth, vice president of EA SPORTS marketing, commented, "NBA LIVE 96 for PlayStation upholds EA SPORTS' tradition of releasing top-notch titles for successful new hardware platforms. The combination of 3-D animation and the exploitation of the NBA license, such as inclusion of all teams, players and statistics, clearly positions NBA LIVE as the premier basketball title that will satisfy the appetite of die-hard hoops fans. NBA LIVE was the top-ranked cartridge basketball title in 1995 and EA SPORTS looks forward to claiming the same status on PC and the 32-bit systems this year."
Before the action begins, game players are introduced to NBA LIVE 96 through a dynamic 3D-rendered 360 degree opening sequence using Electronic Arts' Virtual Stadium technology. Virtual Stadium takes players on a journey from the top of the stadium for an aerial view of the court followed by a sweep through the chanting crowd then ultimately to center court for tip-off.
Throughout gameplay, Virtual Stadium allows players to get even further immersed into the realism of the game through NBA LIVE 96's 15 camera angles, including a full court look from the press box called "Press Cam," along with views from NBA arena catwalks. This exclusive technology combined with a CD-quality soundtrack, video footage of NBA stars slam dunking, dishing no-look passes and launching sweet outside jumpers makes NBA LIVE 96 an absolutely outrageous hoops experience.
NBA LIVE 96 also has its own web site featuring quick-time videos of PlayStation game highlights of a variety of NBA stars, multiple screen shots and an invaluable player strategy guide. It can be found on the Internet at http://www.ea.com/easports/easports/html. NBA LIVE 96 is currently available on the PC CD-ROM, Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
