Enter the Matrix was developed under the creative direction of Matrix filmmakers Larry and Andy Wachowski. The unprecedented level of collaboration between Hollywood's hottest filmmakers and the award-winning Shiny Entertainment team promises to make Enter the Matrix a truly unique gaming experience.

Game Features: The game is based on a highly original blend of the key best selling console game genres. (Action/Exploration/Fighting/Driving.) The writer/directors of the Matrix movie trilogy, Andy and Larry Wachowski, wrote the game script and personally directed around one full hour of NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN Matrix footage exclusively for this video game. (Shot at full Hollywood quality using the same movie crew and actors.) The final experience is a seamless blend of gameplay, in-game cinematics and fresh new Matrix footage. The game stars all of the key characters from The Matrix Reloaded (likeness and voice over), including Neo (Keaanu Reeves), Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss), Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving), Niobe (Jada Pinkett Smith), Ghost (Anthony Wong), Sparks (Lachy Hulme) and Persephone (Monica Bellucci.) The game has the truly authentic, photo-realistic Matrix ‘look’ based on unparalleled collaboration with the actual movie making production crew. The fight sequences in the game are choreographed by Master Wo Ping (Crouching Tiger-Hidden Dragon, Iron Monkey) and his team of expert disciples. Just like he did in the movie, Wo Ping gives you the power to run on walls or take down a room of enemies without breaking a sweat. The game contains incredible visual effects including advanced particle engine and world destruction as seen in the Matrix movie. Players will see, only after playing the game, that their actions actually have an effect on the 2nd movie – The Matrix Reloaded and when seeing the movie for the first time will realize how what they see actually ties in with the game they’ve played Same musicians in-movie AND in-game Same SoundFX in-movie AND in-game

"Let's put it this way: You can take the blue pill, and Focus on your initial lack of fight-mechanic knowledge, believing whatever you wish to believe... or you can take the red pill, Ghosting your way through the first few levels until you meet your first Agent, and see just how deep the game-experience goes. Enter the Matrix seems to split its aim between hardcore Matrix fans and experienced gamers; if you find yourself with a foot in both camps, you may well find this one of the most faithful movie-to-game experiences in recent memory. 4/5 stars" - Gamesdomain

" My final thoughts on this title are very strong. It is an incredible game, though flawed in some ways, it isn’t as flawed as most of the rushed games of the past. I feel that this game is a true work of art, and should definitely be rented by all Xbox owners, and bought by any who truly appreciate all that this game is. The game itself is as much a part of the Wachowski brothers’ story as any of the movies. To fully understand the story, you’ll have to play the game. Yet to fully understand the game, you’ll have to see the movies. This is truly incredible, and a marvel to movie based games. No longer does the movie make the game, but the game is now a part of the movie. I feel that this game was one of the best additions to my video game library I’ve come across in quite a while. Good luck to all of you on turning your Xbox off, once you’ve started the game. I am confident in saying that this title will be a modern classic before any of us expect it to be. So, until the next installment of Matrix based games, I say this, “there is no spoon.” If you know what I mean by this, then go buy the game, because you’ll appreciate it far more than anyone who didn’t. 9.1/10" - Xboxmaniac.com

A movie tie-in to beat all movie tie-ins, Enter the Matrix expands the saga of The Matrix like no video game has before...

Released to an unsuspecting film audience in 1999, The Matrix captured the imaginations of movie-goers worldwide. Blending slick kung-fu fight sequences with revolutionary camera techniques, The Matrix redefined science fiction cinematography forever.

Fast forward to the year 2003. Countless other movies and video games have adopted and parodied many of the story-telling and visual techniques (ie - Bullet Time) pioneered by The Matrix.

So how do you top your own success and those of your copy-cats? Infogrames and the talented developers at Shiny Entertainment invite gamers to discover the answer in Enter the Matrix for the Nintendo GameCube.

Red or Blue?

Coinciding with the theatrical release of The Matrix Reloaded, Enter the Matrix picks up where the first Matrix left off. The remnants of the human resistance have received a video transmission from one of their hovercrafts, the Osiris. (For details on this side-story, check out The Animatrix short films on VHS or DVD).

The robots have developed a nigh-unstoppable army of sentinel robots. Enter the Matrix follows Captain Niobe and her crew on their mission to save humanity from total destruction.

The Ones

At the beginning of your journey, you must choose which hero to control. Niobe (Jada Pinkett-Smith) is an expert at hand-to-hand combat and piloting. Ghost (Anthony Wong) is described as a Zen master assassin, unparalleled with a firearm.

While both characters have the same basic objectives, how they carry them out is entirely unique. During driving or flying sequences, Niobe is in the driver's seat. Playing as Ghost has you (literally) riding shotgun and defending the vehicle with gunfire.

While many of the areas the characters explore intersect, certain events and boss encounters can only be obtained by each character. You can only fully appreciate the story by playing through the game twice, one with each character.

Features

Enter the Matrix sports an impressive list of features, including:

  • The story-within-the-story -- without the game, you won't see the entire The Matrix Reloaded story
  • Incredible kung fu, directed by The Matrix fight choreographer Yuen Wo Ping
  • Car chases and stunts that take you right to the hard line, Hollywood style
  • Pilot the Logos, the fastest hovercraft in the Zion fleet
  • Hack into your gaming console
  • Defy gravity and bend the rules in "Bullet Time"
  • Over an hour of exclusive video footage, directed by the Wachowski brothers

Is it a Game or a Movie?

The actions that take place in Enter the Matrix parallel those in The Matrix Reloaded. While familiar heroes like Neo, Trinity and Morpheus light up the big screen, Enter the Matrix follows the story of Niobe and Ghost as they carry out their own missions.

While movie audiences will have no problems following the basic story by watching the movie by itself, new story depths unfold by playing the game. It seems that Niobe and Ghost have a bit of history with Morpheus and Trinity.

I Know Kung Fu

The heart and soul of Enter the Matrix lies in its startlingly intuitive combat engine. Most of the game takes place on foot from a third-person perspective.

Pretty much anything you've seen Neo do in the movies, your character can do in the game. Along with a basic health meter, Niobe and Ghost each has a special Focus meter for pulling off supernatural feats.

Activating Focus (or Bullet Time, if you like) slows down the game world while allowing your character to move at full speed. Under its power, your character can also run up walls, jump farther and even dodge bullets.

When unarmed, your character can pull off an impressive array of punch, kick and grab combos. Activating your Focus while attacking unlocks more powerful techniques and generally improves the likelihood of connecting with an attack.

The nearest enemy is automatically targeted by your character. If your current opponent is armed, pushing the Action button within arms length will allow you to disarm your him. Make sure to pick up any weapon the enemy drops. Disarming while focusing, and you can unload a few rounds into the enemy with his own gun.

Combat, for the most part, is context sensitive. Your character can repel off nearly any surface and perform a spinning jump kick. If there are enemies on both sides of you, your character can pull off a split jump kick, tagging both baddies at the same time.

After spending mere minutes with the controls, players will be able to cartwheel dodge bullets, run up the side of a wall, disarm an opponent, shoot him with his own gun and kick the other guard standing behind you without even looking. This level of ease makes you feel as though you really are a part of the Matrix.

Guns. Lots of Guns.

You rarely have to worry about running out of ammunition. Any weapon dropped by a dispatched guard or soldier can be picked up and used. Dual pistols can be wielded for blazing action.

With guns equipped, your character will automatically lock onto the nearest enemy. Choose your weapons wisely as each gun has its own firepower and accuracy properties.

Shotguns pack a strong punch and have a wide spread, but are ineffective at long range. Automatic rifles are more accurate but often require multiple shots to take an enemy down. Sniper rifles allow you to take out most enemies from nearly any range, but suffer from a poor rate of fire.

Focusing while firing dramatically improves shot accuracy and allows you to pull off some pretty amazing stunts. With guns drawn, players can jump forward Superman-style and fire away while dodging fire in a tight spiral. Jumping backwards while firing allows for John Woo-style gunplay while offering a quick escape.

On the Road Again

Many of your missions will have you on the vehicular run from rabid Agents (more on them later). Whether in a car or hovercraft, your trip can and will be obstructed by robot menacers.

Playing as Niobe puts you behind the wheel and gives you direct control over your escape. Ghost puts his gunnery skills to use as co-pilot. When playing as Ghost, you must protect your vehicle at all costs. These vehicle-based levels are the few points of the game in which Focusing doesn't come into play.

Secret Agent Men

The agents have returned. You'll recognize them by their single-breasted jackets, sunglasses, ear piece and humorless demeanor.

These robot-controlled hunters attack relentlessly and cannot be killed. If you manage to take one down, he'll simply regenerate by taking the place of any human still a part of the Matrix.

On several occasions, you'll find yourself running or driving away from these mechanical menaces. Frantic rooftop chases echo scenes from the original Matrix movie. Your only hope is to find the exit before the agents catch up to you.

Hacking into the Matrix

Enter the Matrix introduces a new option previously unavailable to any other game -- hacking. Using a rudimentary black and green dot-matrix interface, players can enter old-school text commands to unlock various secrets and cheats which can be used in the game.

With a little work, players can enter access codes that drop special weapons into levels. Once logged out of the hacking screen, players can resume the action, picking up their new-found weapon within that level.

The developers have hinted at other goodies such as character profiles, access to hidden videos and even hidden new play modes. Players are encouraged to visit special web-sites for updated passwords.

Film and game blend like never before as the groundbreaking film series gets a suitably groundbreaking game. Are you ready to take the red pill?

Released in time to coincide with The Matrix Reloaded, Enter the Matrix actually takes place during the same time frame as the movie. Choosing from Morpheus' female counterpart Niobe or 'spiritual martial arts warrior' Ghost, you must help prevent the machines that have ravaged Earth from destroying what few 'real' humans remain on the planet. Naturally, once you're jacked in you'll have access to thousands of authentically choreographed martial arts manoeuvres and, of course, guns. Lots of guns. You'll also experience high-speed driving action and pilot a hovership through the Sentinel infested tunnels of earth's subterranea. Do you want to find out just how deep the rabbit hole goes?

Unlike typical film tie-ins, Enter the Matrix has had creative input from many of the films' key players, both in front of and behind the camera. Jada Pinkett-Smith and Anthony Wong, who play Niobe and Ghost respectively, reprised their roles from the film for both the specially filmed extra hour of live footage and all of the in-game action. Using revolutionary body capturing techniques, the two actors have been recreated to an almost eerie level of detail. And, although you don't get to play as them, Neo (Keanu Reeves), Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) all make appearances as the storyline - which actually dips in and out of The Matrix Reloaded - progresses.

Behind the scenes, directors the Wachowski brothers wrote a complete side story to run concurrently the second film in the trilogy and also provided a guidance for the game's direction, both in terms of visuals and gameplay. Fight choreographer Yuen-Wo Ping oversaw the motion capture of literally thousands of fighting moves. Even the set designers contributed to the 'sets' in the game.

You'll spend most of your time cracking Agent skulls (as well as a mysterious vampiric menace) in the game's fast-paced, on-foot action-adventuring sections, using your 'Focus' to activate the infamous 'bullet time' effect and slow your enemies' attacks down to a snail's pace. Occasionally, however, you'll get to jump behind the wheel of various automobiles and engage in thrilling driving sections that are reminiscent of Reloaded's stunning highway chase scene. Back in the real world, you'll have to help protect Zion, the last city of man, from the mechanical-tentacled threat of the Sentinels, piloting the Logos through miles of disused tunnels and blasting the 'droids with the heavy firepower at your disposal.

The simple fact is that Enter the Matrix isn't just a video game set in the film's universe - it's a highly integral part of the multimedia Matrix experience that the Wachowskis aimed to create. Not only do events from the game spill into Reloaded's action, but the film also converges with ETM. If you haven't seen one or played the other, you'll never be able to see the full picture. Which makes it a great relief to find that Enter the Matrix is a hugely playable and highly polished title with amazing production values that isn't so much the game of the movie as it is the game within the movie. The best film tie-in to date? We'll leave that up to you to decide...

  • 1,000s of combat techniques, choreographed by Yuen-Wo Ping
  • Play as two characters, each with differing abilities and individual story branches
  • Over an hour of live footage filmed especially for the game
  • 'Hack' into your console
  • Meet all of the leading characters from the movies - Neo, Trinity and Morpheus
