Description official description

Swashbuckler is an early fighting game. The whole game takes place on the same screen. You're in the center and enemies such as humans, snakes, and rats come at you from either side. You've got a sword that can strike high, low or center, or block.

As the game progresses the number and speed of the enemies increase until they're too fast for a human to handle.

This was pretty similar to another Datamost title, "Aztec" which was an Indiana Jones type side-scroller.

A fun and difficult game of swordplay

The Good
The graphics were very well drawn. The backgrounds and characters were very detailed. Probably the best part was that you really felt you were fighting off hordes of bad guys (albeit one or two at a time). It was very satisfying to get close to the end of the level and see all the dead bodies pile up.

The Bad
The controls were difficult (about six different keys on the keyboard - no joystick control). Although the characters were well drawn, the animation was rather jerky.

The Bottom Line
Swashbuckler is a side-perspective fighting game where you use your trusty sword to fight off all sorts of enemies, from rats and scorpions to thugs and pirates.
