Description

The Humble Bundle Mojam is a collection of three games made in 60 hours between 17th and 19th February 2012. All the development was broadcast live with webcams and it included a chat where players could get in contact with the developers. The theme of the game was also voted by the public and it was decided to be an Egyptian steampunk real-time strategy shoot-em-up. The three games along with the soundtrack were made available after the gamejam to anyone who donated through the "pay what you want" concept during the process. None of the titles were available standalone afterwards or could be bought after the gamejam, except for Catacomb Snatch and The Broadside Express because the source code was released for free and for the latter the game can be played through a direct URL. The gamejam ended with a total donation of $458,248.99 throuh 81,575 purchases and all of the money was donated to four charities: Child's Play, Electronic Frontier Foundation, American Red Cross, or Charity: Water, according to the distribution chosen by the donors. The included games are: Catacomb Snatch* (soundtrack, Windows, Macintosh, Linux, source code) by Mojang

  • Fists of Resistance (Windows) by Oxeye Game Studio
  • The Broadside Express (soundtrack, Browser (Unity for Windows and Macintosh, and also a Flash version), source code) by Wolfire Games

Catacomb Snatch

Catacomb Snatch is a game where an explorer needs to retrieve a currency from a resource in a closed arena filled with enemies such as bats, snakes and mummies. At the base camp the player can purchase three items, but these cost gems, acquired by defeating enemies. To reach the resource, the player has to put down a railroad track towards it and blow up special barriers using bombs. Once the track is in place, carts can be put on the rails to fetch the currency. As the carts are vulnerable, they need to be protected from enemies by putting down turrets. Turrets, carts and bombs can be purchased at the base camp for 150, 300 and 500 gems respectively. Putting down rails also require gems. The goal is to get 100% of all resources. The game can be played in singleplayer or locally against another human opponent. In the latter scenario Herr Von Speck is introduced, next to the default character Lord Lard. Both players then attempt to gather the currency as quickly as possible and they can also shoot each other's carts. Turrets are indestructible and can be moved to any location. Enemies spawn from a large yellow tomb and can be destroyed.

Fists of Resistance

The game by Oxeye does not fit the Egyptian steampunk theme. Instead it is a fighting game set inside a dungeon. The player controls the character with a randomly generated name and appearance as he attempts to defeat the Nazis and steal all their gold. Werner can be moved around and he can punch, kick, and sprint. While sprinting two additional attacks can be performed. Coins are left behind by enemies but can also be found in chests. These can be picked up and thrown to open them. Green chests contain timer bombs that destroy many enemies at once or disable tiles with respawning points. Sometimes a key is needed to get past obstacles. There are different levels and the game can also be played cooperatively with another player, either locally through LAN or online.

The Broadside Express

In The Broadside Express the player controls a steampunk train, fighting other trains in a 3D desert environment. Players can determine the movement speed for the train (forwards and backwards) and steer left or right. Cannon shots can be launched from the left or the right side of the train with a key. Fighting the other trains is not the only worry; the desert is also filled with giant scorpions that spew poison. When hit, smoke appears around the train and it turns red. The fire can be extinguished by not suffering damage for a short time.
