I think I'm going to cry. With arcade-perfect ports of Mortal Kombat II and 3, NARC, Rampage World Tour, Total Carnage and Gauntlet II, classic compilations really don't get much better than this. Not to sound too much like a sleazy infomerical salesman, but this amazing collection offers so much more!

I had the joy of reviewing the first offering of Midway Arcade Treasures a while back. That was a fun blast to the past with only some controller issues to keep it from being a more-often played game. As is the case again here, some of the classics do not translate will into platform consoles with modern (too fancy) type controllers. Still, there's a lot of bang for the buck with this bodacious bundle.

Ah yes, the good old days of videogames. The Atari 2600, the Intellivision, the Colecovision, and then the mother of them all, the arcades!! The 80’s was the time when arcade games were the “In” thing. It was cool to hang out at the arcade and play Pac Man and Defender. The games were somewhat cheesy and they looked like crap compared to today’s standards, but we all have to start from somewhere. Ah yes, the good old days! And now it seems that many game companies are bringing out old school classics. For the second time, Midway has gone back to its old school vault and pulled out some of their best old school games of all time! If you thought Midway Arcade Treasures had some great games in it, wait until you see what's in Midway Arcade Treasures 2! 20 more old school games in one package for only $20! How can you lose?!

For you gamers who’re looking to experience a lot of classic and “only seen in arcades” gaming, Arcade Treasures is definitely the game for you. For 20 bucks, you’re getting 20 games, which is a great value. Plus, as I said earlier, the inclusion of nearly perfect emulations of Mortal Kombat 2 and 3 alone make this collection worth it for any fighting fan. It’s nice to see older titles get the attention they richly deserve, and hopefully other companies will take note of what Midway’s done.

Midway delves back into its past. Following the success of the first Midway Arcade Treasures, Midway has promptly released this update. In this game, you’ll find pretty faithful recreations of many Midway games of yore, including Mortal Kombat II, Mortal Kombat 3, Spy Hunter II, Narc, and many others. All in all, there are 20 games included in the $20 package, which is a great deal.

Raiding the arcade vault for a second time, Midway has compiled an eclectic mix of 20 games that span almost every genre. But the choices are hit and miss as some of the titles remain strong today, while others haven't aged...well, at all.

Last year's release of Midway Arcade Treasures was an incredible hit for the publisher, so much so that the company has offered up a much meatier sequel with Midway Arcade Treasures 2. The pack for 2004 follows up the original's theme of combining nearly two dozen original, classic arcade titles of the 80s and packing them with historical data and developer interviews on a single console disc. The sequel, however, ups the ante with a beefed-up collection of much more contemporary arcade hits, more detailed data on each game, and a much better interface in which to play them. The overall package still isn't quite as over-the-top awesome as, say, a Special Edition DVD flick, but you'd be nuts if you don't see the value Midway's put into this compilation.

Nostalgia can be a double-edged sword, particularly for people trying to recapture their youth. On one hand, thanks to the Internet, you can probably find the movie, game or toy that you remember from your childhood, allowing you to stroll down memory lane. On the other hand, you may wind up paying hundreds, if not thousands of dollars acquiring this feeling. Fortunately for older gamers, Midway’s provided a doorway into the past with the sequel to their successful retro gaming collection, Midway’s Arcade Treasures 2.

Of course, I could write a review for every game in this bundle, but that would waste everyone’s time. I will say that there are easily enough titles for you to purchase this one today for a mere $20. Of course, this game has its muddy spots with odd titles like Timber, Kozmik Krooz’r and Wacko, but the good clearly outshines the lackluster. Even the non-stellar titles are at least playable, and nothing that I would consider “bad,” since they all had their own sort of innovative aspects. This compilation is more than worth its $20 price tag, so with that, I can easily recommend it to you. Just don’t get mad at me when you realize that you can’t beat Shao Khan without brushing up on your skills.

In conclusion, Midway Arcade Treasures 2 is a solid compilation, with enough classic titles to warrant a purchase. For those of you that don't particularly care for 80's and early 90's arcade games, you could always give it a rent, for the Mortal Kombat games and Total Carnage. Otherwise, your best bet would be to go with the original Midway Arcade Treasures, which is still high on our list of quality compilations.

If you like to reminisce over the old times when games didn’t require memory cards and 60 hours of playing time than Midway Arcade Treasures 2 is probably a wise choice to pick up. If there are any games you like here, then by all means, one dollar per game is a very tempting deal for a compilation disc like this. Happy retro gaming!

It took a little while for arcade game makers to see the potential in re-releasing their back catalogues of classics to a crowd of ageing gamers hungry for youthful nostalgia. The retro craze peaked around 1998 following the successful endeavours of a dedicated emulation community, which at its height managed to churn out PC software that could play just about any arcade or console game from the past 20 years (providing you were willing to download the games illegally). The buzz may have since died way, but that hasn’t stopped the likes of Midway looking to tap the market.

It’s got two of the most successful arcade games of all time in Mortal Kombat 2 and 3, but, as a whole, Midway Arcade Treasures 2 is a pretty uneven compilation. Out of twenty games, there are only 5 or 6 games I’d play for an extended period of time. When compared to the original, MAT2 just can’t match up to the cavalcade of classics like Robotron, Defender and Joust. In fact, many of the enjoyable games on MAT2 are minimally updated retreads of games on the first one (see Gauntlet and Championship Sprint). MAT2 is a great game, and an absolute steal at twenty bucks, but I’d recommend the first before this one.

With such a huge back catalog of classic arcade games in its vaults, it's no surprise that Midway has released another compilation of some of its old games. This new collection, called Midway Arcade Treasures 2, contains 20 games that span over 15 years of games from Midway, including Atari Games, which Midway acquired in 1996. As with most classic arcade compilations, the games here tend to hold up pretty well, and for the most part, they're very close to the arcade originals.

Whilst this collection has a few more misses (and omissions) than the first entry in the series there's still enough quality games from the 80s and 90s on offer that fans of classic arcade games should find plenty to enjoy. We live in hope that Midway's new owners, Warner Interactive, will see fit to reissue these and other bygone arcade games for the Wii in the future.

If you lived through the era these games are from then this is a must own set, even if the games are a horribly hit or miss. Most people will likely put down the cash just for the "Mortal Kombat" titles. The others are really just a bonus. If the "MK" games don't really do it for you, you'll still have a lot of fun here, just probably not as much as the rest of us.

What I recommend is that you only buy this game if you've played and love at least one of the titles in the collection. The risk is too great otherwise. Most people are not going to love these games if this is the first time they've played 'em. That's not who this collection was made for. It's called Midway Arcade Treasures 2 for a reason.

Midway digs deep into its arcade attic again for some well-known classics and some long-forgotten relics. With one Arcade Treasures already in the books, Midway goes two different routes for the sequel. One way is bringing back more obscure titles from the early days of gaming. The other is to set the way-back machine to the early- to mid-'90s. Both have varying degrees of success, but the end result is still a great gaming bargain that's hard to pass up.

Referring to this collection as "treasures" is being awfully loose with the language. The genuine classics are few and far between in this decidedly mediocre hodgepodge of old arcade games. Released between the early 80's and early 90's, most of the 20 titles feature refined 2D graphics but less-than-crystal-clear sound effects.

The follow-up, Midway Arcade Treasures 2, hits the mark on three of those four points: it's huge, nicely-reproduced and sells for a great price. But the genuine classics part? Well, not so much.

Misty-eyed old nostalgists that we are, we really miss the pioneering spirit of the Arcade, with its capacity to surprise, tempt and tease, offering us gaming experiences that were often years away from entering our homes. It was the Tomorrow's World for the gaming scene, and made you realise just how limited your home computer really was. But at the same time, even in our tender years we could recognise that many - if not nearly all - of these games were designed to kick you off as soon as possible, with the intention of extracting as much coinage from your limited funds as possible.

Midway Arcade Treasures was, without question, a great collection. Although many of the games included in last year's compilation suffered a little from overexposure (having been seen already in so many other collections), on the whole it was a huge, nicely-reproduced anthology of genuine classics for a great price.

Classic collections or 'Treasures' are incredibly hard to look at objectively. On one hand you've got the ruthless side of your brain demanding every game in the collection to be judged by modern standards, while the nicer side wants to get all nostalgic and remember the good old days. Seeing as I have no idea what you're gaming history is, every game in Midway Arcade Treasures 3 is getting a grilling.
