Dragooned is a single player pick-up-and-play action game with 40 playable characters that have very different playstyles and a variety of modes, including advancing through procedurally generated levels with a party of characters, facing down endless onslaughts of enemies and undertaking a variety of challenges.

The differing character abilities allow for a vast range of playstyles, from basic offensive, defensive, speedy and projectile focuses to summoning, aerial combat, area control, status effects, knockback, counterattacks, stealth, teleportation and even more advanced playstyles beyond.

Must be Dragooned into buying this game.

The Good
The randomly generated endless dungeon mode. What's not to love about a game you can play forever and never beat it? Talk about getting your money's worth. However, is Dragooned really a game someone would want to play forever? There is a plethora of trophies to earn for the platinum maniacs to enjoy. Also being able to save after every fifth level boss fight is a welcomed feature.

The Bad
Graphics mean nothing when a game has either a great story behind it or addictive game play. Dragooned unfortunately does not have either of those so the graphics are noticeably bad. The graphics look like 1992's Alone in the Dark, but in 2018. Attacking with weapons or spells is clunky and awkward, which leaves your character wide open for attacks. Jumping has a slow gravity issue. It would seem like that issue would be an advantage with so many small platforms it forces the player to jump on, but no, it does not help. A simple med kit will be placed on a thin platform that will likely kill the player trying to reach it. Blocking has a timing aspect to it which when perfectly timed leaves the player invincible for a few seconds. This is made useless because the enemies rush you, making attacks the preferred method of survival. It has a strategic system that allows the player to quickly switch between three out of the forty selectable characters that are chosen at the beginning. This strategic system is also made useless by the enemies bombarding the player. Every five levels end with a boss fight who attacks you so much and so quickly surviving over a minute is a rarity.

The Bottom Line
A platformer made on a strict budget and developed by deviant chimpanzees.
