Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown

Moby ID: 56728

Description

Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown is the final revision of Virtua Fighter 5. From the previous revision Virtua Fighter 5R, released only in arcades, comes the addition of two characters (the sumo wrestler Taka-Arashi, making his return from Virtua Fighter 3 and the katateka Jean Kujo, in his first appearance) as well as improved animations for all characters, new fighting locales, an improved camera system and extra items for the characters' outfits.

Regarding gameplay the throw-escape system has been simplified: while in Virtua Fighter 5 the correct escape direction out of five directions had to be input together with the appropriate throw command, in Final Showdown directions have been reduced to three, and holding the punch and guard buttons registers as both throw escape and guarding. Also new from 5R are short bounces; moves that will hit an opponent into the ground and bounce them back up, extending combos. Overall combo lengths are longer than VF5, but shorter than VF5R.

As for new content in the home version, this revision presents training and tutorial game modes; this aids the less and the more learned of the players to acquaint themselves with the fundamentals of attacking, guarding and dodging, as well as to practice and discover the renewed throw-escape system and the around one hundred moves for each character. The training mode includes visible inputs, a movelist along with realtime updated damage, frame data, and frame advantage, and a training dummy with both selectable AI and programmable input commands. Single-player modes include a simple arcade mode and challenge mode where a series of fights must be won under specific conditions, such as performing specific moves or defeating opponents with additional HP.

Online modes consist of ranked matches, player matches, and 8-player room matches. Videos of matches can now be saved, shared online, and examined with tools similar with those given in the training mode.
