Biography edit · view history
John “Dok” Whitson was born in Chicago and grew up in Minnesota where he became fascinated with visual arts at a very young age thanks to the strong creative nature of his family. His early influences were a balance between old European Masters and popular comic books. Dok attended colleges at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; University of California, Santa Barbara; and San Diego State University, where he received awards and scholastic honors leading to advanced studies and exhibitions of his primary fascination, printmaking.
Dok has created comic book and video game art for over twenty years, working at leading video game developers such as Midway Games, BlueSky Sofware, Sega of America and 989 Studios. Currently a Senior Concept Artist for Sony Online Entertainment in San Diego, California. He continues to hone his craft by attending art classes, story-telling seminars, workshops and by exhibiting personal work relating to the human figure and pop surrealism. His work appears in “Spectrum 13” and in multiple pages on the new “Everquest 10th Anniversary Collector’s Edition”.
Counted as lucky by anyone who has met his magnificent wife, terrific son, and exceptional extended family, Dok is closely monitored by three beguiling Bulldogs who keep him both laughing and cursing in equal measure.
