Astérix
Description
The year is 50 BC. Gaul is entirely occupied by the Romans. Well, almost entirely... One small Gaulish village continues to defy the occupying forces, the villagers protected by a magic potion which makes them invincible. But now Obelix has vanished! The Romans have confirmed his capture and taken him to an unknown destination.
Astérix is a platform game based on the eponymous comic books, where the short and mustached Gaul has to progress through levels located all across Europe, fighting Romans and various aggressive animals along the way, to rescue his friend Obelix before Caesar throws him to the lions....

The Good
After playing for a few minutes, you'll realize that both the background and the enemies are well created and graphically excellent. The creators have tried to show the potential of the NES console, and they greatly succeeded in this. From the forests of Gaul to the icy mountains of Helvetia: they're all very well created, accompanied with a good soundtrack.
The Bad
The lack of originality and the durability are the most bothersome details that need attention. The main enemies are either the Romans or the Egyptians, who both either hurl spears at you while standing still, or moving around. Other than that, there isn't too much diversity. Also, an experienced gamer can easily beat this game in a matter of hours, and altering the difficulty level doesn't really offer more of a challenge.
The Bottom Line
When I first played this game, it came to my attention that this isn't a game for gamers who seek a challenge. The thin sheath of good-looking graphics can't hide the poor originality and greyness. Avoid this when you're looking for something with more content.
