About myself:I'm an 1980 model from Sweden who enjoys his daily dose of video games. I've been playing games since I can remember. My dad used to work at the swedish factory that distributed Fairchild, so we always had a bunch sitting around the house. We then got ourselves an Atari 65XE which I remember playing to death. From there I've owned or played basically every computer and console up until the current generation (I have yet to get a PS3).

Aside from being a gamer I live with my fiance Laura, walk our dog, hobby DJ on my turntables, listen to lots of music and work.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My gaming tastes: When it comes to gaming I play pretty much any genre because, much like music, there's at least one good game in any given genre as long as you look hard enough for it. However, I tend to play a lot more games within certain genres. These include, but are not limited to:

RPG: Both japanese and western. It depends on what I feel like at the moment. I like the japanese ones for the story and usually the character designs, and the western ones for the fiddling around (I used to play a lot of pen&paper RPGs as a teenager and it's nice to be reminded of how fun it was through these games).

Offbeat games: Games that offer something new. Something that you rarely see nowadays it seems in console games. The ps1 was a goldmine for the japanese oddball games. While they won't always hold my interest for more than one playthrough, they still remind me that there's hope for creative souls to come up with fresh games still. As soon as something hits the shelves that seem slightly out of the ordinary, i'm there to scoop it up.

Action: I've gotten a little smitten by the style set up by Capcom around the time they released Devil May Cry. Capcom managed (and still manages) to get that feeling of impact and "oomph" right in most of their games. And now that the ps2 games have come down a lot in price, I'm stocking up for the future. ;)

Survival Horror: I know it's a very tired and formula driven genre by now, and most has been done already it seems... but you can't beat the nice feeling of snuggling up on the couch with the one you love, turn down the lights and just sit glued to the TV for a 5-10 hour horror fest. The gameplay is more than often rather stale, but she loves watching them, and the stories are usually really good. (The Silent Hill games and Project Zero/Fatal Frame 1-3 comes to mind)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some genres have come and gone, but still hold a special place in my heart...

Platform games: This genre was at it's peak in the 8/16-bit days when it could do no wrong. While there might be one or two good ones here and there now, it still feels like this is a genre that's been reduced to a side note due to kiddy design and gameplay and shoddy 3D-jumping. The platforming games of yesteryear were for everybody. The Sonic and Mario games were hard enough to give even the most experienced gamer a challenge, while they were still accessible enough for anyone to pick up and play right away. Accurate jumps and precise timing has given in to poorly executed 3D worlds where you have to collect things in 9 out of 10 cases. It's a shame really...

Point & Click Adventures: In the early 90's they were everywhere, the newest release always topping the previous in terms of graphics, humor and story. Lucasarts could do no wrong, Sierra made games with more sequels than any Final Fantasy game and even smaller companies like Adventuresoft gave it a shot. But something happened to this happy little bubble of perfect games, and by the end of the 90's they had gone the way of the Dodo. I never understood why since I loved them so, but it seems that the grey mass of gamers were sick of them and wanted something else. Thanks to episodic games in the last few years we're starting to see a comeback of competent games luckily, such as the glorious return of Sam & Max. :)
