Overview edit · view history

House of Tales Entertainment was an adventure game development studio located in Bremen, Germany. It made games for PC and mobile phone platforms from 1998 to 2009.

After working together in the past, Tobias Schachte and Martin Ganteföhr founded House of Tales in 1998 and started developing the company's first game The Mystery of the Druids. House of Tales was the only German developer of adventure games in that time.

In 2003 House of Tales became a GmbH (limited liability company in Germany) and the first company worldwide to develop adventure games for Java-enabled mobile phones in collaboration with the mobile phone game specialist Elkware.

House of Tales expanded in 2005 into content providing for computer game productions and also design document and dialogue script services for the German telenovela Verliebt in Berlin. They also directed the recording of the original voices from the series.

A year later House of Tales opened a development studio in Bremen and expanded its team. In September 2008 the company became a part of dtp entertainment AG, although still worked independently on their adventure projects.

Tobias Schachte left the company in late January, 2010. One month later, in February, Martin Gantefoehr left too. At the same time the company was moved from Bremen to Hanover, Podbielskistraße 166, home of the other dtp internal adventure studio Cranberry Production. House of Tales was joined with the Cranberry soon after. The main reason of the studio's downfall has been said to have been creative differences on the further direction of the studio after the buy-out, and poor critical reception and sales of 15 Days.

On 6th January, 2012, dtp PR team reported via the www.adventure-treff.de forum that Cranberry Production moved to Hamburg to develop online games. The move also meant the end to the House of Tales last remnants and also the end of dtp's internally developed adventures.
