Description

Great Adventures by Fisher-Price: Castle is a game for children aged three to five based on the Fisher-Price line of toys. It takes place in a medieval kingdom that is under attack by King Smudge and his Naughty Knights. They steal King McBeard's crown and throw him into a dungeon. The story is narrated by Jester, the king's helper, but the player controls the character McDuff who needs to free the king and take back the kingdom. He can do this by recruiting the king's Good Knights. There are eight knights and each one is tired to a specific area. At the start of the game the player can choose to find all knights or just two to complete the story. The game uses a medieval setting, but with some fantasy elements (McDuff rides a skateboarding on loading screens) and with some comedy, for instance through accents or referencing movie lines.

From the main square the different areas can be accessed. The game is mostly played as a simple point-and-click adventure game with some minor puzzles. Most of these can be solved in the same screen by using the interactive elements in the scenery. For instance when three missing stones need to be found the player clicks items in the environment until they are uncovered. One of the knights is recruited by making trades at the marketplace to increase value, another by winning a cannon-firing contest in a tournament, another by matching shapes in stones, and patterns in iridescent magic crystals and so on. The knights then gather at the blacksmith, but McDuff also needs to restore their shields by finding the matching pieces. Once the required number of knights have been recruited the castle can be stormed headed by McDuff. Each knight has a different skills that is used to take over the castle.

Next to the activities mentioned before other educational skills that are developed are creative exploration, role-playing and storytelling, strengthening memory skills and building early computer skills.
