Traps 'n' Treasures

Moby ID: 13203

Description

Captain Jeremy Flynn’s crew have been kidnapped in the Caribbean, and he must venture through 4 large baddy-infested levels to retrieve them. Along the way, you can collect money from handily-placed treasure chests, which can be spent in various shops to gain extra weaponry.

Additionally, the levels contain all manner of surprises, and lots of hidden features, many of which require doing a sequence of things in order to uncover potentially massive bonuses. There are lots of puzzles to solve along the way, making it more similar to Gods or Krisalis’ previous Arabian Nights than a straight platform game. Many of these involving moving and positioning crates to gain access to higher points in the levels. Jeremy can swim, and there’s a considerable amount of animation on display when he does.

One of the best Amiga games ever made

The Good
A huge game which requires just as much thought and strategy as it does platform-leaping action. Make your way through the four levels - the seashore, dank caves, a mighty temple and the evil Captain Redbeard's fortress - in order to find and rescue all your crew. There are countless secret passages, treasures and surprises to be found. The backgrounds are atmospheric and nicely-detailed, whilst the villains and varied dangerous animals are well-animated. One of the most addictive games I've ever come across, and one which makes me long for the days of the Amiga.

The Bad
No complaints at all.

The Bottom Line
This is a platform puzzle game in which you must find your way through four giant levels, freeing your crew from their cells before escaping the island. You can pick up and move objects such as wooden crates, in order to jump to previously unreachable areas, and you will need to find keys to unlock the many doors around the place (the keys come in four colours, and each will unlock only doors of the same colour). You'll also need to use varied other objects dotted around, and you can buy health-restoring food and extra weapons from a storekeeper by the use of treasure hidden about the area. There are quite a few underwater areas, and numerous baddies who become increasingly deadly in each level.
