It’s 273 B.C. and all Italy has been united under the same Senate power of Rome. You are the ruler of the Republic, deploying armies and defending against the 13 independent hostile lands which constantly plot to destroy Rome.

At your disposal are the incomparable Roman Citizen Legionaires, reinforced by mobile auxiliaries and static Garrison troops. Beneath you are 21 commanding officers of varying abilities and loyalties.

Though you can usually quell minor incursions and rebellions, you may sometimes face the combined attacks of all your enemies. Loss of roman territory and honor means a loss of confidence among the Citizenry. Your fellow Romans may decide you need to be overthrown! Such a Civil War could lead to a disastrous weakening of the armed forces, withdrawing Legions from critical frontier areas to defend The Eternal City.

ANNALEN DER RÖMER ist ein Strategiespiel von riesigem Ausmaß daß das Entstehen und den Niedergang des römischen Reiches nachahmt. Beginnend im Jahre 273 v. Chr. - zu diesem Zeitpunkt hatte die Römische Republik die Herrschaft über Italien schon errungen - übernehmen Sie die Role der herrschenden Machtgruppe im römischen Senat. und setzen römische Armeen und Kommandanten in Fremd- und Bürgerkriegen ein.

IHR HÖCHSTES ZIEL IST ZU BESTEHEN

Bis zu 13 voneinander unabhängige feindliche Mächte werden Ihnen gleichzeitig gegenüberstehen jeder darauf erpicht, seine eigene Macht zu erweitern. Zu Ihrem militärischem Vorteil stehen Ihnen die aus römischen Bürgern gebildeten. unübertrefflichen LEGIONARIES zur Verfügung; unterstützt durch die mobilen AUXILIARIES und die Garnisonstruppen der LIMITANEI. Zusätzlich stehen Ihnen auch bis zu 21 Offiziere mit unterschiedlichsten Fähigkeiten und Loyalität bereit. Wenn Sie diese mit den Armeen klug einsetzen, werden Sie meistens die Opposition ausstechen. Aber Vorsicht! Militärischer Mißerfolg wird Invasion und Verlust von Gebieten bedeuten und dazu führen, daß Ihre Popularität und das Vertrauen an Ihrem Regime schwindet-möglicherweise, einen Aufstand und Machtergreifung eines neuen Diktators oder sogar eines KAISERS in Rom.

Das würde Bürgerkrieg bedeuten, die militärischen Kräften auf katastrophaler Weise schwächen, und zur Folge haben, daß Legionen aus kritischen Grenzgebieten abgezogen werden müßten.

ACHTUNG! Die Geschichte läßt einem sehr selten nochmals eine Chance. Es gibt nur eine Geschicklichkeitsstufe in diesem Spiel — ALLES ODER NICHTS!

Wie alle die besten Spiele ist ANNALEN DER RÖMER denkbar leicht zu spielen, aber sehr schwer zu meistern. Jedesmal worin Sie spielen wird das Spiel anders sein, aber immer historisch realistisch.
