Game Over. Let's take a better look at the instructions...
thumbnail
Your mission like in Cyclone, is to find the targets on the map, but instead of people in need to be rescued, these targets have to be destroyed.
thumbnail
Time and fuel are the most crucial elements to pay attention for. Respectively, an empty tank implies the loss of a life, missing the schedule the game itself.
thumbnail
Without mastering these, there's no success.
thumbnail
Taking off. Not that difficult, but as in every aspect of Tornado this manoeuvre has its tricks.
thumbnail
(At the first glance there were no targets in sight. I forgot I was piloting a Tornado with variable-sweep wings allowing supersonic bursts of speed.)
thumbnail
- Here it is, the first target caught on screen.
thumbnail
Now, the second phase is to fly over it at a certain height with a correct direction so that it can be destroyed.
thumbnail
(After some tens of attempts, I finally managed to destroy it.)
thumbnail
(Wasting too many fuel attempting to destroy the first two targets. At this point I was desperate to refuel the deposit...)
thumbnail
Not in time. Start over again.
thumbnail
Some acrobatics: flying above the overhead power lines.
thumbnail
Without noticing I crashed against a building... seconds later I couldn't stop recalling the tragedy of 9/11. I took the casual analogy to crease my position against religious fanaticism.
thumbnail
The images were carefully picked from the video recorded during the gameplay to illustrate that. The border turns red when the plane crashes or when a target is destroyed.
thumbnail
Beautiful landscape demonstrating Vortex mastered and was one of the pioneers of the "pseudo 3D" pixel art.
thumbnail
Another landscape highlighting its aesthetics.
thumbnail
A tough task to land. There has to be this minimum distance for safe landing, which is not that short, and the correct touch-down moment plus the right pressure into the ground.
thumbnail
The last 3 targets are not in sight.
thumbnail
Destroying a target (notice the border turning red).
thumbnail
- I wonder if I'm flying within the safe limits... (getting too close to urban areas)
thumbnail
- I wonder where's Android 2? (for curiosity, the trees inTornado are the same used in the mentioned game of the same company)
thumbnail
A detail illustrating the layers of shadows.
thumbnail
- They shouldn't put those targets so close to urban areas...
thumbnail
- It's time for speed: wings are fully swept back and I'm positive some window glasses were broken during the recording of this video
(in fact it really happened with Concorde).
thumbnail
When you are not mastered in the skills of landing, there's this unfortunate possibility of overrunning the time limit even with all the necessary targets already destroyed.
thumbnail
Perfect landing with a tinny left-over of time. The mission was a success.
thumbnail
Second mission: searching for targets at high speed.
thumbnail
- Supersonic Tornado with wings fully swept back and its shadow... like... Lucky Luke!
thumbnail
Targets start to appear on water, increasing the difficulty of the game.
thumbnail
Here's an aquatic one.
thumbnail
- Delivering Your Sinclair magazines.
(A tribute to Paperboy and Your Sinclair)
thumbnail
Another acrobatics playing "seek and hide".
