Did you CD that?

The Good
This conversion retains the spectacular futuristic visuals, core mechanics, tough difficulty and superb presentation from the original Arcade and AES versions. Loading time doesn't really pose a problem either. It's playable, it's enjoyable, just seventeen little hitches to spoil the atmosphere are in the music tracks.

The Bad
The biggest difference that alienates the game (not counting the space aliens) is the rearranged soundtracks, which use different instrumentation which really doesn't fit the theme of the space age future at all. All those electric guitars and synthesized piano key tunes sound more like they belong in a shopping center or rock cafe or some of those modern places, not a futuristic battle. Whatever made them change the music tracks, it totally wasn't worth it. They should've enhanced the original music tracks and added more sound effects.

The Bottom Line
This CD conversion of Last Resort really can't offer you what the arcade or cartridge originals already had in store. If you don't fancy the wishy washy remixed track from the CD, you have no real reason to get it. If soundtrack isn't an issue, any console or emulated version of the game will do. This title gets a generous pass.
