It's 1999 . . . and the Russian Bear is Back!

Your task force has been on alert for three days. Russian air units have been flying in proximity to your position, and it's just a matter of time before they launch an air strike against you. The thought of Russian Tu-26 “Backfire” Bombers launching air-to-surface missiles against your Ticonderoga-class cruiser is terrifying. But you're a professional; you've been trained by the best--The United States Navy.

Suddenly, your SPY-1B air search radar picks up enemy aircraft coming in quick. You've little time to breath, let alone think. What will you do? The Combat Information Center is ready; you give the nod. With the push of a button, a Standard SM2-MR surface-to-air missile launches from your ship and disappears in the sky. Will it hit? It better, or you're in deep. . . water!

Other features: * 19 different countries represented in 10 different Persian Gulf/Indian Ocean scenarios * Over 100 different classes of submarine and surface ships * Over 60 different types of aircraft, from interceptors to bombers * Human vs. Human * Human vs. Computer * Play by E-Mail * Variable command control

Welcome aboard 4th FLEET. You're in command of a U.S. Navy task force, with a full range of hardware at your command: Nimitz-class carriers, with their Tomcats and Hornets; Ticonderoga-class cruisers, searching the seas and skies with powerful radar; F-117A stealth fighters and P-3 Orions support you from land.

As a fleet commander, you've got better things to worry about than the endless details of running a ship. Don't worry--your computer will handle the non-essential work, leaving you to worry about strategy and command. If you're good enough, the sea lanes remain open, the Russians don't get their client states, and America's interests are served. Fail, and your ships are sunk, along with the future of the free world.

5th FLEET gives you a new engine, a new design and a new standard for modern naval warfare. Hi-res graphics give you crisp, vivid maps and screens. Play against a wily computer opponent at variable levels of aggression and difficulty, “hot seat” a friend on the same computer, or play via E-mail. Whichever way you play, you'll agree that 4th FLEET splashes the competition.

Ops Display--Move your subs and surface ships into battle.

Air Missions Display--Send your bombers and interceptors on dangerous missions.

Tactical Reference Display--Access real-world and game information of aircraft, subs, and surface ships at the click of a button.
