Math Heads
Description
Math Heads is an educational math game. It is modeled like a TV: after selecting the character, the player switches through the game's sections with a TV remote control. When switching channels, there is a fictional advertisement to watch. The head part of the title comes from the stylized characters: they have small bodies and very big heads. The latter are photograph stills which are animated through stop motion. The main portion are three mini-games:
-
Go Mental is a quiz show modeled after Hollywood Squares. There are nine (parodied) celebrities which are arranged in a 3x3 square. Each round, the player chooses one celebrity which tries to solve a math text problem and the player has to agree or disagree. Each correct answer rewards money - the amount depends on the difficulty level, -and a false answer takes away money. It also colors the head and makes it unavailable for further rounds. The winning condition is to create a row or column of three colored heads, but that's only relevant when playing with two players.
-
Dance 'Till You Drop is modelled like a dance show, but it still involves solving math questions. The dance stage is a linear row with ascending numbers (for example, left 0 and right 100). The player is given a math equation and has to "dance" as closely as possible to the answer by dragging the player character left and right within a time limit. The goal is to win money with correct answers.
-
In Face the Music, the player is presented with a board of 5x3 squares, each with a picture or text. Each represents a percentage, e.g. some eggs with a certain number colored red or a text like "1/2". Now the player has to quickly click on all squares which fulfill a given condition, e.g. "higher than 75%". Each correct click rewards points and after a few rounds gets to the music video portion. After setting a few variables (music, background, style, title and director's name), the game creates a music video which can then be watched. There is no money to be earned.
The earned money can be spent in the in-game shop. For sale are additional math problems, magic math tricks, cosmetic items (new heads and bodies, optical changes in the mini-games, etc.), three board game translations (Mancala, War and Nim) and similar items.
