The Marriage

Description

The Marriage is a freeware game by Rod Humble, developed as an expression of how a marriage feels. The player acts as a passive observer and/or an active participant. It is a delicate game, easy to break, and a single session can last half a second or a much longer period.

The game is thought-provoking and no information about the events, or cause and effect, is given. Without revealing or spoiling interpretation and symbolism, the game shows a blue and a pink square against a single background. Based on the player's actions, clicking or hovering, the screen will fade to black, ending or possibly continuing the game, or the shapes will change size or opacity. These events also occur without input from the player, but can be influenced.

The shapes also change when the two squares meet or when they are touched by circles in different colours, slowly and randomly appearing from the top of the screen. This event can also trigger the appearance of a coloured bar at the bottom of the screen. Small circles and squares can appear from the two main shapes as well. Events happening to one shape can also effect the other one.

When the screen does not fade to black early, the background changes to purple, pink, green, and black.
