Unreal

Moby ID: 330

Your senses expanded. Your fears unleashed. Your reality altered... forever.

You awaken in a small, enclosed room with metal walls. You have no recollection of where you are. Perhaps a prison cell? An angled metal door lies ahead. With effort, you push the creaky slab open.

This is not at all what you expected. The "prison" you just exited is now revealed to be a small, badly-damaged spacecraft. Walking along a trail in foreign terrain, gun in hand, you journey onward to find out where you are and what your purpose is here.

Observing your surroundings beyond the carnage reveals a beautiful and serene, yet somehow spooky, landscape. Two moons are in the sky. Ruins are in the distance. And a big, bad, alien is eating one of your buddies.

Unreal places you in a stunningly life-like 3D world that is as dangerous as it is beautiful. Whether playing alone or on the internet, Unreal will change your perception of what computer games should be.

Seize the power to create Unreal Worlds with the Unreal Level Editor.

GT INTERACTIVE STRIKES EXCLUSIVE GLOBAL PUBLISHING AGREEMENT FOR UNREAL

New York, NY, September 10, 1996 -- In an industry coup, GT Interactive Software Corp. (NASDAQ: GTIS) has obtained exclusive global publishing rights to Epic MegaGames Inc.'s Unreal, one of the most anticipated and sought-after 3D action games for 1997. GT Interactive plans to release Unreal, an Internet-adaptable multi-player PC game, during the first half of 1997.

Under the agreement, GT Interactive obtains exclusive rights to publish Unreal and a sequel for the PC, and an option for Sony Playstation, Sega Saturn and Nintendo 64 systems on a worldwide basis. In addition, GT Interactive obtains rights to Epic's UnrealEd, a proprietary 3D authoring tool for publishing associated game level sets. GT Interactive may also utilize the specially designed Unreal engine to create five additional premier software titles.

"Unreal is a hit-caliber title that breaks new ground in the 3D action category and will be a leader in our 1997 lineup" said Ron Chaimowitz, president and chief executive officer of GT Interactive. "We are excited to be working with the creative and technologically innovative artists at Epic to bring consumers the most advanced and entertaining software in the industry."

"We are pleased to bring our crowning jewel, Unreal to one of the industry's strongest publishers", said Mark Rein, vice president of Epic MegaGames Inc. "With its unsurpassed marketing and distribution strength, and success in publishing 3D games, we believe GT Interactive will garner even greater recognition for Unreal in the marketplace."

Designed for the Windows 95/NT platform and Intel Pentium processor-based computers, Unreal will take advantage of Intel's new MMX technology, providing 24-bit color, CD-quality audio and exhilarating visual effects -- all of which hassled industry experts to cite Unreal as having created a new genre of gaming. According to PC Gamer (July) magazine, "The name of the game is Unreal and it's absolutely appropriate. Every indication is that this game and the few others like it will be the true next generation of computer gaming."

Unreal puts one or multiple players via the Internet, in a highly detailed 3D alien world populated by two warring races. Optimized for high resolution play, Unreal's visuals set a new standard for realism -- water is transparent, flames randomly flicker, moving clouds cast shadows while dynamic lighting and music changes occur appropriate to the on-screen action. Hundreds of polygons and frames of animation comprise Unreal's eerie monsters, and cinematic audio effects, including blowing wind, flowing water, crackling fires and terrifying footsteps, enhance the game's one-of-a-kind experience.

UnrealEd, Epic's advanced 3D authoring tool, utilizes constructive solid geometry, a sophisticated yet easy-to-learn method of creating 3D environments and objects that allows consumers to create their own Unreal worlds.

Amazing 3D!

This can't be real. It's not. It's Unreal...the game that rewrites the books on what a 3D action shooter can do. The game that will alter your reality...forever.

Unreal offers a complete world for you to roam -- a world of incredible beauty and realism with the most detailed environments ever to grace your screen. In one seamless flowing world, race across vast outdoor and indoor environments, enter enchanting cities, mysterious temples, glittering mines, shattered ships, and crystal clear waters.

Not that it'll be easy: with Unreal's array of fierce new fully polygonal enemies stalking your every move, it'll be a struggle just to survive. You'll have some help, of course: with an arsenal of incredible new weapons at your disposal, you should at least have a fighting chance against the Skaarj and their allies.

But with over 300 frames of animation apiece, and monster AI (that's Artificial Intelligence to you) your adversaries will be smarter, meaner, and more alive than any you've ever faced. Which means that just when you think you've got them beat, they'll retreat, team up, and take you out later.

Features:* 24-bit color, super hi-resolution graphics and spectacular dynamic lighting. * Bilinear texture smoothing makes walls, objects and creatures look better up close. * Optimized for 3D graphics cards (still looks "unreal" without them though!). * Incredibly simple multi-player setup procedure. * Internet play with true client server environments - individuals can "host" their own version of the game.

System Requirements: PowerPC 603e at 180MHz or faster (such as Performa 6400,6500, etc.) or 604e at 132MHz or faster, 32MB RAM (64 recommended), MacOS 7.6 or higher (Mac OS 8.0 or higher recommended), 120MB hard disk space and a CD-ROM drive.
