Shangri La 2 Deluxe: The Valley of Words
Description
Shangri La 2 Deluxe is a word construction game, where a pile of hexagonal tiles have to be arranged as words at the bottom of the screen. Each tile has a letter, and like in mahjong it can only be moved when one of its 6 sides is free. The objective is to clear all sides of a special star tile, and collect it. The star is usually buried beneath all the other tiles.
Longer words give more points, and the tiles have a number of little dots besides the letter indicating their value. Some stages have tiles of multiple colors, an the game gives bonus points for making words with tiles of the same color. A long bonus word appears at the top of the screen that gives extra points when spelled.
Some levels have a time limit, where the player must collect several stars before the timer runs out. On these stages, bonus words give extra time.
Like the stars, power-up tiles that can only be collected after clearing all surrounding tiles. They are stored in three slots at the right side, and can be used at any time. One power-up adds vowels to the board. The dictionary tile suggests a long word to be spelled with the available letters. The shuffle tile changes the position of all the tiles. The joker "*" tile can be used in place of any letter in a word.
