Hit Edutainment Software Title Mario Teaches Typing Now Available in Enhanced CD-ROM From Interplay Productions

Irvine, California-Jul 22, 1994-More finger-tapping fun is on the way as Interplay Productions announced today the release of Mario Teaches Typing Enhanced CD-ROM. In releasing this title, which follows the best-selling disk based title of the same name, Interplay takes Mario to CD-ROM with an edutainment game loaded with new features. "Mario is a character that children will recognize and relate with," said Jerry Luttrell, marketing manager for Interplay. "We wanted to take a character and produce a title that would be fun and entertaining, while educational, with a subject matter that could otherwise be boring to learn. One of the great surprise achievements of this game is that even adults are learning to type with Mario in this 'learning while playing' format."

Players can choose a mentor from the original Nintendo cast of characters, Luigi, the Princess or Mario, and then be swept away through three fun-filled levels of experiential learning and toe-tapping fun. The student will learn rote key strokes while their mentor hits blocks, swims with whales and jumps for the sky.

The greatest feature of this title is the Mario-In-Real-Time and VActor technologies. This state-of-the-art technology actually brings Mario to life, giving him human-like qualities as he speaks, laughs, tells jokes and talks the student/player through the three levels of typing lessons. The student will be encouraged by Mario's upbeat lesson evaluations and ready to tackle the next challenging exercise. There are also over 40 Mario-In-Real-Time movies to guide and entertain the player.

With Mario Teaches Typing Enhanced CD-ROM, Interplay has added several more lessons to the original MS-DOS version. Additionally, Interplay has improved the interface with simple point-and-click icons so the student may concentrate on the play at hand. Students may also track

their progress by means of the individual progress recording feature. Allowing for multiple users, this feature can track the whole family from beginning through advanced levels. Tracking features include key accuracy, words per minute, and problem keys. For added fun there are hidden reward levels throughout the game as an extra challenge.

Interplay has also included a teacher's disk for creating lessons and classroom control elements. A printable certificate option is available after completing major goals so teachers and home learners may be presented with an award for their efforts.

Mario will come alive in this typing adventure in bright 256-color VGA graphics so students of all ages will enjoy his fun between-lessons antics. Great stereo sound effects and music from familiar Mario games are a highlighted feature. Interplay has also written a new Mario rap song particularly for this game, entitled "Practice Makes Perfect". Also included is the Mario original cartoon after the successful completion of a lesson. However, for the serious typing student, a straight typing tutor option is available to eliminate the game play elements.

Mario Teaches Typing Enhanced CD-ROM is available now for IBM computers and 100% compatibles 386SX or higher system, with a hard drive and requires 2MB of RAM, DOS 3.3 or higher, with 1.5MB of free space, a VGA video card and CD-ROM drive. Mario Teaches Typing Enhanced CD-ROM supports the Microsoft and compatible mouse, Adlib, Sound Blaster series and 100% compatible sound cards as well as the internal PC speaker. Mario Teaches Typing is also available on floppy disk for both IBM computers and 100% compatibles and Macintosh computers and is coming soon for Macintosh CD-ROM.
