The English fleet is moving out of Plymouth in the morning, with the Spanish at the horizon, initially out of sight. The yellow compass shows wind direction arrow and strength at the bottom.
thumbnail
This battle is computer vs computer, and we'll see both sides information. The Spanish fleet has red striped sails, as opposed to the blue striped English sails.
thumbnail
Lord Howard is the English Admiral, and his fleet has just spotted the Spanish fleet, whose Admiral is Media Sidonia. You can play either as a human or computer player.
thumbnail
The Spanish ships here with oars are called Galeass. There are also smaller ships, like the Spanish Zabra. Identifying ships is done by clicking on them, simulating a telescope.
thumbnail
As the day turns into evening, the colour of water and sky darkens. The battle reports are requested and arrive continously.
thumbnail
The battle goes on through the night. The infantry can be moved from ship to ship, or to shore if needed. Much of the tactics of the time was focused on boarding an opponent.
thumbnail
Next mornings battle in progress; notice the white smoke-puff from the cannon on the ship in the lower left. Yep, that's about as exiting as it gets.
thumbnail
Battle reports from a Spanish captain; the English cannon balls are mostly bouncing off harmlessly.
thumbnail
After a set time, the battle is considered over, and we get the results. This was the two-day budget battle, there is also a five-day version with more ships involved.
thumbnail
English fleet is intact, with 73 casualties; 19 points lost. Spanish fleet lost 1 ship, with 150 casualties; 73 points lost. The battle is considered a draw.
