Yap - these guys just don't make ordinary games...
thumbnail
An intro shot: Armored Maiden is obliterating some of the evil knights
thumbnail
Part of the intro story. Note - the mess on the bottom screen is intentional and is NOT a product of bad emulation.
thumbnail
Another intro shot - Armored Maiden kneeling in front of some giant monument.
thumbnail
Intro shot. Obliterating evil in style.
thumbnail
Intro shot. More awesome magical gee-wiz.
thumbnail
Intro shot. Another enticingly beautiful additive alpha effect.
thumbnail
The title screen.
thumbnail
If you try to begin the game without completing any of the tutorial first, the game and I strongly recommends that you do.
thumbnail
Beginning with the basics.
thumbnail
And then onto the crazy bullet-hell part...
thumbnail
The game also allows you to flip the plain of reality from Law to Chaos - that alters the attack patterns of all classes.
thumbnail
...and this is only the very, very basic stuff without which you wouldn't even know what the game wants from you.
thumbnail
Now THAT'S what I'm talking about! Additive alpha FTW!
thumbnail
More active tutorial.
thumbnail
..and once you are done with the most basic "First Steps" part of the tutorial, the game really piles it on - another 5-6 pages of tutorials!
thumbnail
Introducing the classes.
thumbnail
The armored maiden introduces herself.
thumbnail
And this is how you attack...
thumbnail
Once you are done with the "First Steps" and the "Tutorial" tutorials, there is still the "Hints" section that is still part of the required reading if you want to have any clue of what to do.
thumbnail
Since at this point I was probably more confused than before I started, guess which difficulty I picked?: )
thumbnail
And so the game starts with the Armored Maiden summoning the Wisp.
thumbnail
Another piece of flavor text.
thumbnail
Scene 1. GO!
thumbnail
These two are tracking the armored maiden
thumbnail
The wisp awakens just to be promptly ambushed by some heroic-wisp-eating monsters.
thumbnail
And so the battle starts.
thumbnail
Before going into the battle the player is supposed to equip four weapons - choose wisely, as you can't change them during the battle.
thumbnail
Before the battle you are also shown the layout of the field, class and strength of the enemy and all the possible hero spirit summon points, as well as the dead warriors inhabiting the current field.
thumbnail
The battle starts - my first one was a dismal failure.
thumbnail
Game paused... sort of.
thumbnail
A testament to my complete initial lack of understanding of this game's mechanics.
thumbnail
Each battle is capped off with a monster slot machine that picks the beasts you will fight the next time.
thumbnail
Recruited my first warrior spirit.
thumbnail
Certainly getting better!
thumbnail
Finished my first scene.
thumbnail
"You are TERMINATED!"
thumbnail
The scene summary.
thumbnail
The warrior spirit is brought back to the world of the living, and now joins my party.
thumbnail
And now his sad story is replayed.
thumbnail
Finally - you can save.
thumbnail
Bwaahh - my inner designer is currently screaming in protest to the impossible mess that is this screen: )
