Digital pre-orders of the game via GamersGate, Steam, Impulse and Direct2Drive come with a free Pirate Bay campaign. It allows players to take the role of pirates in order to intercept the trade routes of other factions. Playing as pirates is not possible in the regular version of the game.

Many of the fleet's commanders' portraits are based on the pictures of the game's developers. People such as Kim Soares and Lasse Lehmusvaara can easily be recognized.
