Tuskegee Fighters
Description
Tuskegee Fighters is a add-on for Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator: WWII Europe Series.
The add-on is based on a group of African American airmen of the US Army. They were trained separately to other airmen at Tuskegee in Alabama, hence the game's title. The base started out as a really small airfield with a Stearman PT-17 biplane trainer, this was later replaced by AT-6 Texans as the base grew. In 1943 the airmen were in Tunisia as part of the 99th Pursuit Squadron and took part in the attack on fortified positions on and around Sicily. Later on in their history the squadron merged with others before finally becoming the 332nd Fighter Control Squadron responsible, among other things, for escorting bombers to and from their targets.
The manual says that the concept of this package is to allow the player to train in the aircraft the pilots would have trained in and before moving overseas to join the war. The missions in this package are set in North Africa and Southern Europe, they are based on real events reflecting the evolution of this fighting force. Mission one for example is based on the attack of the ground installations at Cape Bon and Sicily flying the Curtiss P-40 while later missions involve bomber protection duties flying the P-51 Mustang.
The aircraft included in this package are the Tuskegee trainers, the Steerman and the AT-6 Texan together with the warplanes the planes flown by the airman in battle, the Curtiss P-40L Warhawk, the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt and their trademark red-tailed North American P-51 Mustang in six pilot's liveries.
