"The Unholy War" Hits the Shelves; Includes Interactive Demo of the Highly Anticipated "Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver"

Sept. 23, 1998, Menlo Park, Calif. - Eidos Interactive Inc. (Nasdaq:EIDSY), a leading worldwide developer and publisher of interactive entertainment products, and Crystal Dynamics, Wednesday announced the release of the action-packed combat/strategy game, "The Unholy War."

From the creators of "Star Control" I & II and the co-designer of "Archon," "The Unholy War" pits players against each other, or the fearsome AI, in a battle for dominion of the planet Xsarra. "The Unholy War" has a suggested retail price of $49.99 and includes an interactive demo of "Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver."

The Story

The planet Xsarra has been a peaceful land since the native Arcanes won an ancient war and took rulership of the planet. Now, however, a vicious and destructive cyborg species, the Teknos, have invaded Xsarra looking to find a planet with the resources to save their dying race.

The two mighty races have become locked in the grip of a brutal war with only one possible outcome ... the utter annihilation of either the Arcanes or the Teknos.

"The Unholy War" is an addictive 2-player 3-D combat/strategy game that features an exciting mix of fast-paced action, resource management and tactical gameplay while pitting two combative forces against one another in an epic unholy war. "The Unholy War" features two modes of gameplay for one or two players: "Combat Mayhem" and "Combat Strategy."

In "Combat Mayhem," players select a team of characters and battle head-to-head against their opponent in 3-D battlefields. This fast-paced, arcade-style combat continues until one player has had all of his characters defeated.

In "Combat Strategy," players take turns strategically positioning forces and building resources on a detailed 3-D strategy map, then initiate real-time combat against the enemy to eradicate its forces and claim victory.

"The Unholy War" features 14 unique character classes to command, including the fearsome Razorfane, powerful Tesla Lord and swift Killcycle. Each character class possesses strengths and weaknesses, as well as distinctive attributes and weapons such as hovercraft, spell-casting, lasers and spawning, among others.

Crystal Dynamics, the Menlo Park-based entertainment software studio, was the first to develop and publish a 32-bit video game in 1993. Since then, the company has gone on to develop commercially successful products for the Sony PlayStation, Nintendo 64 and PC.

The land- and air-based combat rages across 14 different combat arenas containing unique weather, obstacles and real-time power-ups. Simple weapon controls, dramatic real-time lighting effects and an innovative camera that intelligently zooms in and out of the battle action will crank up the excitement for players.
