Due to PEGI introducing stricter ratings guidelines for games that include gambling, the slot machines in the Goldenrod and Celadon Game Corners were replaced with a picross-like minigame called Voltorb Flip in all non-Japanese releases, even those that were not rated by PEGI. Korean releases also heavily altered the battle sprite used by Sage trainers, most likely for religious reasons.

According to publisher Nintendo, Pokémon SoulSilver Version together with HeartGold Version sold 12.72 million copies worldwide (as of September 30, 2015).
