Panzer Killer!

Moby ID: 44830

Description

In Panzer Killer! the player takes the role of different American tanks in about 50 missions set during World War II. The game is focuses on action, this means the tank controls similar to regular third-person shooters. Besides his health the player also has to look after his fuel and replenish it by collecting fuel containers on the ground. He also has different weapons (machine gun, airstrike and tank cannon) and ammo types to his disposal which are more or less useful against different targets. During the missions the player simply drives from point A to point B while avoiding mines and shooting everything German in sight, e.g. tanks, houses or jeeps.

The Bottom Line
Panzer Killer is a simple action game about killing other tanks. You take control of a Sherman (an american World War 2 tank), and fight against waves upon waves of German tanks. While the idea behind the game is quite alright, an action-oriented game about tank on tank battles, the execution leave a lot to desire. Even though this is supposed to be an action game, your tank moves very slowly, and aiming your gun is a chore. Not because it is hard, but rather because the turret turns so slowly. Had this been a simulator, that would have been understandable, but as it is not, it just detracts from the overall experience. The AI is incredibly bad, and will just drive straight towards you, or follow pre-programmed routs, and if they see you, they will fire, even if they can't hit you (like for an example a turretless tank will fire straight ahead, even if you are behind it). Moving in any direction other than straight towards the enemy means that they will, most likely, miss you, so avoiding incoming fire is easy.

This game feels like an awkward mix between a simulator and an action game. Many of the elements feels like they were meant for a serious simulator, like the realistic movement speed, and the historically accurate models, but then you have the simplistic arcade action elements, that just clashes with this. Had it not been for Digital Fusion's previous games, one could easily mistake this game for a simulator which was changed mid production.

In closing, this is not a game that I would recommend to anyone. It is quite simply not fun, and for a simplistic action game, that is the most important part.
