The game had a rich history of announced platforms. A timeline: * April 2006: Original announcement for Windows and PlayStation 3. * February 2007: Xbox 360 version announced, PlayStation 3 version pushed back as possible platform. * August 2010: Xbox 360 version cancelled (according to Square Enix because Xbox Live does not allow cross platform servers), PlayStation 3 version announced for 2011. * September 2010: Windows version released. Because of the negative reception, the PlayStation 3 version is put on hold until the Windows version is fixed. * October 29, 2012: Beta testing for the expanded relaunch Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, announced for Windows and PlayStation 3, begins. * November 11, 2012: The Windows version is shut down.
