The game does take a while to load
These are the available dogs. Each has its own traits and characteristics
The player must then enter their name and the name of their dog. There's an 8 character limit to both names
These are the game configuration options. They're really quite simple as befits the target audience.
The game starts with a help screen. The fire hydrant icon indicates the state of his/her bladder. Thoughtful. Thankfully this is the extent to which the game replicates bodily functions
The game is menu driven. Here it starts with a hungry puppy....
The gamer goes to the Care menu. Food is there on the top of the new list
There is some food in stock so this can be selected. If there were no food available the player would be prompted to go to the pet store
By selecting the food the puppy is fed, and by feeding him the player is rewarded by the unlocking of the frisbee toy and the rubber brush.
Just because the brush is unlocked it does not mean it becomes available automatically. So it's off to the shops
At the store about to buy the rubber brush. Water and food are available from the start but other toys and treats must be unlocked by playing the game
Here the dog is being brushed. This is done by holding down the left mouse button and moving the cursor all over the dog
From the 'Go Out' icon a list of available locations can be accessed. Competition is greyed out as the puppy is not old enough yet
From the Toys menu the puppy's ball has been selected. The ball is thrown by a left mouse click and always seems to follow the same trajectory
Here we are at East Bay Park
York Park is pretty similar
At Big Leaf park there's a chance to really exercise the puppy with some long throws. At present he's too young and won't chase a long throw
When the Tricks option is accessed the game explains how a simple mouse stroke becomes a command
To train a puppy the gamer must have an adequate supply of bribes / treats.
The instruction to sit i a straight line from the forehead downwards while in teaching mode. This shot shows the remnants of the cursor's track for such a command
After each successful command the puppy is rewarded
After five successful performances the puppy has learned the trick and the player is rewarded with another unlocked item - in this case a dog house.
Buying the dog house at the pet store. Just enough money
The log out screen. There is no save slot, the game saves automatically
The final exit screen
