War... War Never Changes

The Good
Fallout New Vegas: Ultimate Edition biggest perk is the inclusion of all New Vegas expansions plus the preorder content. This gives you several items off the bat and many more chances to level up, and adds hours of gameplay to the title.

The story is also expanded upon as well. Following the main plot of where you get shot in the head, come back from the dead and pursue your assailants across the Mojave Desert, many of the expansions contain storylines relating to the more mysterious events in the game. This gives the story even more depth and makes it far more intriguing.

Building off of Fallout 3, New Vegas requires you to thrive in a post nuclear apocalypse in all new but helpful ways. Players no longer have to reach a certain level to fully repair items (as long as they have items that are compatible with one another, they can be fixed to full condition), Work Benches and Reloading benches allow for the creation of new weapons, gadgets, and making your own ammunition. The Survival trait allows for the creation of custom made foods (complete with recipes to find) and will make anyone feel like a regular Grizzly Adams.

The Bad
Despite the inclusion of expansions packs in one package, these packs do little to address some pretty sever bugs. These bugs include enemies disappearing from the landscape (but still being killable), enemies and characters falling through the ground or glitching into unrecognizable abominations, or the classic flaw where the game crashes and has to be restarted from the last save point, or even all the way over if the data becomes corrupted, which usually occurs when entering or leaving a building.

And as a bit of a spoiler warning, let's just say those looking for a Broken Steel-type expansion like Fallout 3 will be sorely disappointed.

The Bottom Line
Fallout New Vegas: Ultimate Edition is a great way to save money when it comes to purchasing expansions (it can be bought brand new from video game stores for about 40 dollars), and these expansions are well worth it. From higher level caps, to new weapons, and new storylines, there is plenty to enjoy, even if that means having to put up with flaws that should have been addressed.
