Description official descriptions

A group of high-school students and their teacher, after performing a supposedly harmless ritual found on the Internet, are transported into the long-forgotten and supposedly demolished building of Heavenly Host Elementary School. Moreover, they are separated from each other. They soon find out that the school exists on a different plane and it's existence is fueled by rage of victims of a horrible murder that took place in this building more than 30 years ago. Surrounded by corpses of other students who also have been dragged into this place, hunted by vengeful ghosts, lacking any weapons or means to protect themselves, the characters will have to rely on their wits to stay alive long enough and maybe find a way to leave the nightmare.

Corpse Party is a survival horror adventure game. The player controls characters in top-down view and explores the school, interacting with objects and other characters. The player may pick up certain objects and store them in the inventory for later use. Often there is a choice of action, and many choices may lead to characters' doom. Characters have hit points which deplete in certain circumstances, also leading to premature game end.

The game is divided into five chapters, each focusing on different characters and featuring several endings, but only one ending is considered the "true" one and will advance the story. There are also ten gradually unlockable extra chapters that provide further details about the setting and characters. Despite being a 2D sprite game Corpse Party features gory, disturbing visuals, detailed descriptions of death scenes coupled with realistic audio.

This version of Corpse Party is one of enhanced remakes of the original game released for NEC PC-9801 computer in 1996. This version's visuals and character voice-overs are based on Japanese exclusive Corpse Party: BloodCovered which was released for PC in episodic format from March 2008 to July 2011.

The later released 3DS version is based on this earlier PSP/iOS remake and includes further updates and enhancements:

  • Four new extra chapters;
  • Redrawn high-resolution character sprites;
  • Rearranged soundtrack;
  • Select art stills in stereoscopic 3D.

The Linux, Macintosh, PlayStation 4, and Windows version includes all the new stories that were introduced by the Nintendo 3DS port now have character voices. In addition, a new extra scenario with new characters has been added.
