Pocket Monsters: Battle Nine

Pocket Monsters: Battle Nine is a medal game based on the XY series of the Pokémon anime. The game has a bingo-like board, a 3x3 grid. This board features 9 Pokémon. There are two stages, Forest and Cave, and different difficulty settings ranging from Lv.1 to Lv.20. Which Pokémon appear on the board depends on the combination of these factors. The player chooses one of several Pokémon to start out with. The goal is to earn medals. The payout increases by level, but the amount of medals needed to play does as well. Medals are earned by clearing the game board, which is done by battling and catching Pokémon. The player uses their own Pokémon to battle and catch the wild Pokémon. The player selects which move to use, and which Pokémon to use it on. Like in the core series games, Pokémon have HP meters, and the lower their HP, the easier it is to catch them. If the player decides to use an item, a slot-like reel appears and the player has to press a button to stop it, meaning that it takes luck to select the right item. When a Pokémon is caught the player can either cash it in for medals or add it to their team. If the player gets the Team Rocket symbol instead of a ball, Meowth or the entire trio will appear. Meowth steals a captured Pokémon and replaces it with a fresh one, and if the whole trio appears, they will do the same to the player's entire team.

There is also a special game. A gauge between two adjacent players fills up as they catch Pokémon, and if they agree to play it, the special game starts. A different grid appears, with more but weaker Pokémon on the bottom and less but stronger Pokémon at the top. The stronger Pokémon scroll across the screen, while the weaker ones remain mostly stationary. A Legendary Pokémon will appear at the top, but only for a brief period of time. The goal here is to clear the board by throwing Poké Balls at the Pokémon and catching them, and possibly clearing a path to the stronger Pokémon. Each Pokémon has a set amount of medals required to catch it. After the special game times out, the scores are displayed and normal gameplay resumes.
