- Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: Masters (2011 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3)
Description
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: Masters is the 2012 edition of the PGA licensed golf game series. It is different from the console and iOS game Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: Masters as this edition is largely a new version of the online streaming game Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online released earlier. After the release of this version Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online was discontinued in 2013 and eventually integrated fully in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: Masters. It requires an online connection to play and save progress and as a retail version it basically offers three months of subscription to the game. After that players need to pay a monthly or yearly subscription fee to continue playing, combined with various micro-transactions for additional content.
Compared to Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online it adds additional content based on the earlier console game Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: Masters such as various game modes based on The Masters golf tournament with additional courses, the Augusta National Golf Club and many different historic momentsthat can be played. Players build their career through the Nationwide Tour, Q-School, and finally, the PGA tour. Many elements from the earlier console version are not carried over, such as the Caddy Experience with an onscreen caddy, and customizing pro golf players in the Masters career mode has been limited to a small selection of faces that cannot be edited. The game does not offer dedicated online games such as matches as tournaments, only what was previously available through Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online. If the subscription is not renewed, only solo-games can be played from then on. Visually the game uses the engine of Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online for player models and there is almost no sound to the game.
Swings are controlled through a classic three-click meter or using the TrueSwing system by sliding the mouse. By winning matches experience is gained to level up the golfer and cash is earned to spend on clubs, balls and other gear. Instead of earning cash it is also possible to buy points directly through micro-transactions to purchase the gear right away.
