Eidos Interactive turned a lot of heads (in more ways than one) when the original Hitman premiered on the PC. Hitman 2: Silent Assassin allows players to resume the role of the reluctant killer on Nintendo GameCube.

Making Amends

Hitman 2 picks up right where its predecessor left off. Lone assassin Agent 47 moves to a remote monastery as penance for his past misdeeds.

As luck would have it, there are others who are not so quick to forgive and forget. There's a reason why the game isn't called Hitman 2: Silent Gardener.

Fall From Grace

Against his will, Agent 47 and his fashionably shaved pate are forced out of retirement. Gone are the dirt-crusted overalls and work boots. In their stead are a finely woven black suit, leather gloves and a custom Baller .45 caliber pistol.

Despite his business attire, 47 isn't above getting down and dirty. Most of the action takes place from a third-person perspective while allowing players to switch to first-person mode for precision marksmanship.

Hit List

While playing gun-for-hire leaves little opportunity for leisure, your 20 missions will have you taking in the sights and sounds of Russia's St. Petersburg as well as Sicily, Malaysia, Japan and India.

As soon as you arrive on location, you are given mission objectives and parameters. How you choose to achieve them are entirely up to you.

Since you work alone (outside of the occasional intelligence update), stealth will almost always be your primary form of approach. If you're feeling frisky, you can always run in guns blazing.

Just don't expect to walk away without more than a few alterations to your suit. Your targets are always well guarded and don't take kindly to strangers. And if they sense anything out of the ordinary, you can be sure that they'll tell all their buddies about it.

Master of Disguise

So you're outnumbered about 50 to one. It hardly seems fair, doesn't it? Thankfully, you have a number of tricks up your sleeve and they don't all require ammunition.

Part of being a successful silent assassin is the ability to not be noticed. You'll often have to improvise, relying on the shadows and on the limits of a guard's field of vision. Agent 47 can also steal the clothes of any unlucky passer-by and assume their identity.

Just make sure not to saunter too close to nearby sentries. Someone might actually notice that the usual letter carrier has been replaced by a towering bald man who's been lifting more than Christmas parcels.

Silent but Deadly

At times, sneaking by security simply isn't going to cut it. You'll probably have to down more than your fair share of guards.

While few guards can withstand a couple of well-placed rounds, the chatter of gunfire will probably attract more attention than you bargained for. Unless you're packing a silenced weapon, you're going to have to get hands-on with your work.

Guards have remarkably tuned senses of hearing, so they'll usually turn around before you can just run up and take them out. For more delicate situations, activate "stealth mode."

This allows you to tip-toe up to your prey without creating any audible evidence of your existence. The only downside is that you move at a snail's pace and anyone who walks by will immediately become suspicious of your behavior.

All in a Day's Work

This is not your straight-forward action game. Hitman 2: Silent Assassin requires you to think on your toes, develop nerves of steel and sometimes play a little dress-up. Head shaving optional.
